Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
This week Karman is India #1 being ranked at #203 just 1 spot ahead of Ankita who is at #204.
She had held this India #1 position just for 1 week in November 2017 but with good performance at Mumbai WTA, Ankita had snatched it back a week later. Same thing will happen this time as Ankita has won a round in Dubai $100K which will take her back as India #1 in next Monday's rankings.
Karman has 18 points falling off too in next couple of weeks. So, she will fall a bit in the year end rankings.
She is currently having her off season training at a tennis academy in Nice,France. Hope she comes back stronger early next year and takes the next steps towards top 150 and further.

An article on Karman on the Wta website

Hopefully her stint at Nice helps her fine tune her game and we see her enter the Top 150 least by end of next year.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
Karman has been identified by ITF as one of the players eligible for it's player grants -
2019 GSDF player grant recipients announced
$25K can be good enough for Karman to travel to several tournaments this year perhaps along with a coach too.
I hope she plans her tournaments better now. I don't know why she missed last year's year ending Indian tournaments and also the current series Singapore tournaments. Else, she would been well inside top 200 by now like Ankita.

She went back to France to train. I dont know how smart that move is, hope it pays off.
In whole month of January she has played 1 match lets hope she enters the Thailand Qualifying event atleast.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
Also played only 1 of the 4 25K tournaments held in India in December, also not in entry list of 25K Jodhpur next week.
She has missed at least 4-5 tournaments which she could have played ( and could have taken her quite a bit up in the rankings ) and gone for training to France instead.
I hope she is working on something which will help in the long run. In the short run, it has hampered her ranking improvement.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
Looks like she is back, playing the WTA event in Hua Hin, Thailand.
Will see how much that stint in France helped her.
Ankita should be in there as well.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
Karman posted on her insta that she has reached Mexico. There is a WTA international tournament in Acapulco,Mexico next week, qualifying over the weekend. Currently, the cut-off for the qualifying draw is 176. I think she might have been assured a wild card in qualies or is sure to get in. Else, she would not have made such a long trip.
In any case, she is in the entry list of $25K(+H) at Irapuato the week after. Also there is WTA 125K in Gudalajara in the week of March 11 where she should get to play qualies at least.
But, I hope she gets to play this weekend itself.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
Yes, she is 0-5 for the year now. Only 1 really bad loss though against Thai veteran Lunagnam who is ranked in 700's. Other losses have been against top 150 level players. Hope she gets some wins soon. It is still early in the year.
