She is playing at a top-250 or top-300 level but has nothing much to show for it

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
Actually, I think she is playing like a player ranked 300-350, which is why she is losing close matches to those ranked 250-300.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
Watched last few games of first set of Karman's match. Twice she got back from 4-5 and 5-6 down to force a tie break and was up 4-1 in tie break only to lose the advantage by some bad unforced errors to lose the tie break 5-7.
in terms of strokemaking, she is better than this top 200 player but just loses too many key points due to unforced errors.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
I think Bondar is currently #241 in singles. 168 is probably her doubles ranking.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
Is there any update on Karman? Except some working-out pictures from Germany at her twitter page from last month, I see nothing. Seems to be back in India now.
Have any of you noticed Karman in any entry lists? Vishnu, Sameer? I have not checked...

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
She was slated to play in one of the $25K Spain ITFs weeks ago but I didn’t see her in the draws. I wonder if she will ever be a full-time professional player. Not making any assumptions but based on how her career has been plagued by injuries, I doubt she will find the key to a long-lasting pathway. It’s unfortunate but much like YB, you know?!

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
I hope it is not injury, otherwise no reason to take such a long break.
Unfortunately, the next 2 years will be a tough time for lower ranked players from Asia with no real tourneys organised in Asia. You need to be beating the Europeans in Europe to rise up. With WTA rankings being frozen, you need to be earning double the points almost to move up. So Karman/Pranjala basically need to play top-100 caliber tennis to get into top-200 and top-150 level tennis to get into top-250 and so on. So even in the best case scenario, it is a 2-3 yr process for them to get into top-200 (as they need to play top-100 tennis almost to get there) unless suddenly the Asian circuit opens up.
I am glad that the 2 players whom I follow the most - Ankita Raina and Leonie Kung - they earned truckload of points right before the pandemic. So their top-200 ranking is sealed indefinately even without any wins which helps them to keep targeting the WTA events week after week which otherwise would not have been possible.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
Opportunities are there for the capable. I agree the current scenario has hurt Indian players slightly more but the last few months performance need serious introspection. Look at US Open for inspiration.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
Nice. Hopefully the rust is coming off... Hopefully a winnable first round too.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
Kamran should have realistic targets. Maybe to start with, play two three weeks in a row. Then maybe try and win more matches. No fun trying hard, getting injured again and back to square one.

I followed scores in first set and Karman was 5-2 up in second set only to lose 5 games in a row. So, probably there is still some rust issue coming back from injury.
