Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
Good news if true. I do not see any videos or photos on her instagram profile though about her practicing or anything in last few months.
So, comeback may still be few months away. But, hope at she at least tries one more comeback. She was our geniune top 100 hope after Sania.

Yes, ready for the court only and not tournament play. That should be at least couple of months away. BTW her ranking has dropped to some 1300s. What would be her protected ranking?

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
Why is she ready for court only? If she did not undergo surgery, what was she waiting for - to be "ready"? Why was she NOT ready for the court so far? I can't think of a physical issue that you wait for a year to go away, without doing anything... This puzzles me.
I will believe that she is going to get back and actually play seriously to go back to top-200 again only after I see it.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
It seems she has just started working out on court. So I think it will take more time for her to start the tournament play. Indian tennis daily has shared some insta video of her on the court with physio.

Yup I saw that video. Difficult to comprehend, but it looked she is weeks away from full match fitness. May be she will start from Jan 2025.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
I keep asking the question - why was she NOT in match fitness? Why did she not play for a year, and what did she do to handle whatever was the issue that caused her to not play for a year?

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
What I could, it tried a come back and got injured again. So she had to go through the full cycle to get fit. Looking at likes of Yuki and Som, trying to come back before full fitness can we bad. Maybe that's what happened last time.
She is already 26. I doubt she has many attempts left. Hence, the precautions. But this is my guess.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
What "full cycle"? That normally needs 3 or 4 week max, if there was no surgery or medical procedure like bone in a cast or some stuff like that. If there was no medical procedure and she took a whole year to get over an injury by just resting and not playing tennis, that means she has not addressed the injury, period!
You don't get over an injury issue (other than temporary muscle strains etc) magically by staying away from court for many months at a stretch. You simply don't. My question is -- did she have surgery, or some sort of medical procedure to address her physical ailment?? I can't find an answer on that.
Unless I hear further evidence of some sort of a procedural addressing of her physical issue, I have to assume that the issue will return after one or two weeks of playing again, and she is done once again. I just don't see any other possibility.
[I guess there is an outside chance for somebody to take a year off for simply strengthening the legs or core muscles, upper body over a very extended period, to address the root physical training deficiency issue that caused the injury before. I am not aware of anybody doing that over a whole year period in the middle of your career. Never. Maybe three months of dedicated physical training. Not more. I don't think that is what she was doing]

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
Exactly. Let us just say that she got married and took an year off, and not make make it sound like she is suffering some injury condition that is delaying her getting back into full playing shape. Unless I hear that she underwent any sort of injury related procedure or treatment plan that needed a year, I will simply take it as she put tennis behind for personal reasons for a year. Nothing wrong in that.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
I think she said she had some issue with elbow. It may be tennis elbow and that can take 6 months to 1 year to recover. I mentioned that earlier as well.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
^^^ Oh, of course, if it is properly diagnosed as a tennis elbow, then I have no complaints. I missed what you said earlier, SaniaFan. Then we should really be sympathetic to what Karman has been going through. She would not have had much of a choice.
There is really no good treatment for tennis elbow, except simply not doing the activity that caused it. And you need to stay away from it for a long time, one year or even more. So, it is really an exception to what I was saying above about physical ailments not going away from just a long period of rest without treatment procedures. Tennis elbow does go away, and it does need a long period of rest. It may not even return if it goes away, and the probability of a "relapse" can be reduced by adjusting certain type of shot mechanics (certain incorrect backhand mechanics, and hitting the ball off-center on the racket, mainly).
So I hope Karman is getting proper expert advice on restarting her tennis, from doctors who have studied tennis mechanics itself deeply. It is most probably some details of her shots that caused it earlier, and adjusting those may be prudent.
Okay, let us get excited about a Karman return, then!

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
I think Yuki also had an elbow injury which impacted him significantly. In general, the stronger your core and lower body is, then you can generate most of your power from there and lessen the strain on your arms. Let’s hope Karman is able to come back stronger as she has top 200 ability which she has shown in the past.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi
By the way, the ITD article does not say "tennis elbow" (and neither does Karman say it in the interview video). Just recurring elbow injury. That does not necessarily mean Tennis Elbow, as you know and hint above. But it might be. If it is tennis elbow, I am surprised that it acted up in December and she took only 3 months break to February to start hitting again. I thought tennis elbow would typically need longer breaks. If she started in February, the gradual ramp up would not take 8 months till October. That means she might have felt a relapse again in Feb/March, after that interview, and might have taken another 6 months off. Now starting again. This all still sounds like trouble. 2+ years of recurring elbow troubleSaniaFan wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2024 6:07 pm I think she said she had some issue with elbow.
