It's been almost a year without an update concerning Karman's return to the tour. Has anyone heard when she will get back to playing regularly?

She did return to the tour and played 2 tournaments in November last year and one in February this year. After that Covid happened. I am not exactly sure what are the protected ranking rules during covid times but hopefully she will continue to get to use her protected ranking for some time after she is back on the tour.

Currently, the tournaments happening are very few compared to normal time and all concentrated in Europe. So, very difficult to plan for second tier players. I do not know why tournaments are not happening in rest of the Asia ( apart from India ). There are lower cases in rest of Asia than Europe which is in the midst of a second wave. China for instance does not report 15 cases a day and still have cancelled all the tennis tournaments for rest of the year and France with more than 15K cases a day is hotsing French open. Perplexing.

This is because the regulations brought in by the Chinese Govt in March denying entry to any Foreigners coming into China is still in place.

Just couple of days back they slightly relaxed the entry restrictions, but only for those Foreigners who have a work or residency permit and that too from only certain EU countries, not worldwide.

These restricted few, upon arrival will be subject to mandatory 14 days quarantine.

So that is why there are no Tournaments taking place in China

Ok, but why have they still put in such restrictions on foreign visitors when their domestic infections are so low ( almost nil going by official mumbers ).

And how much more time such restrictions will continue ?

No idea when will they(China) will lift the ban , as all the affairs of the state are conducted under a veil of secrecy.

But it doesn't look like it will be lifted anytime soon, as Hong Kong has a ban on Foreigners in place officially until 31st December 2020 even though we have just 1 to 3 cases per day(but today it surprisingly spiked to 10 cases) , so assume it could be something similar on those lines ,end of the year when China probably opens up.

Because it is hard to contain the virus if you have open borders. It is much easier to keep it virus free when you have a few cases here and there.

Maybe a good moderator will move the last 4 messages to the coronavirus thread?

Well, but isn't easier to moniter a few tennis players to play a tournament ( may be around 30-40 at the most at a time) after doing their tests and all. I mean it is always better for them to ban international travel altogether but how long can they keep doing it ? So why not have some sportspersons for a start to enter the country ? At least it will give confidence to international community about China.

🎾WELCOME KARMAN KAUR THANDI👋🏽

🗣Statement of Sascha Nensel: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
„We as the nensel academy choose our Professionals very carefully. Our goal is to give them the chance to go that big last step towards Top 100 and higher↗️. For this to happen the whole Team, including Milos Galecic and me, have to agree, show full conviction and do everything possible to make it real. That requires a lot of time and work, which has once again made it possible to welcome the next talented player at our academy: Karman Kaur Thandi 💪🏽
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For one year Karman was in our focus before we all finally managed to come together. The first weeks she trained here in 🇩🇪Germany, Milos and I saw somebody who wants to sacrifice and work hard with a vision for the future🚀. Karman has a lot of potential and strength – we believe in her skills and her talent. She has gone through many injuries – now it’s also our task to prevent further ones. As she plays mainly on a protected ranking our first target is the qualies of the 🇦🇺🎾Australian Open 2021🔥
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are very happy that Karman decided to work with us and we believe she can go big in the future! We’re looking forward to a trustful cooperation.“
Good to see that Karman will be back in training soon.

Good to see that Karman has been signed up by a high-performing German academy too -- one that has high standards for its intake. Let's hope they can deliver for Karman in 2021.

At least she got a lot of time to get back from her injury. Definitely not rushing back, which is a mistake that a lot of tennis players make. Let us look forward to a great 2021... I cannot wait to forget this whole year.
