Bhuvana Kalva thread
Congratulations to 18-year-old Bhuvana Kalva for winning a Futures title, beating the India #1 Ankita Raina and several higher-ranked foreigners along the way. Superb way to earn a thread of her own here!!

Re: Bhuvana Kalva thread
Yes, deserving thread. Bhuvana only had a career girl juniors ranking of 146 . She did win a few grade 4 level titles but never succeeded at higher level events.
She started playing pros early this year although she still has eligibility for playing juniors till end of the year. She reached QF last week & won a title this week. She is coached by CV Nagaraj in Hyderabad who has coached both Vishnu Vardhan & Saketh Myneni.
Bhuvana needs to start travelling abroad for tournaments after this home title.

Re: Bhuvana Kalva thread
She is not even in the entry list of next week's Mumbai $15K Future. It's little puzzling. She could be injured or maybe busy with study.

Re: Bhuvana Kalva thread
Bhuvana is back on the ITF circuit after a long gap and is winning She won back to back titles in the ATT circuit beating the likes of Rishika , Sowjanya.
She will be in Egypt for a 3-week $10K ITF action.I was disappointed when I noticed BK was pitted against a seed in this week's $10K ITF in Cairo,Egypt. But guess what, she upset the 5th seed Fiona Codino
At $10,000 Cairo, Egypt
[R1] Bhuvana KALVA (UNR) 6-3 7-5 [5] Fiona CODINO (FRA,711)

Re: Bhuvana Kalva thread
This is a nice story on Bhuvana trying to make a comeback. We were wondering where she had disappeared after winning that title which led to opening of this thread. Looks like she got married and is now divorced -
A comeback story that reflects true grit
Hope she comes back stronger and makes a move forward.

Yes, thanks for sharing this. Heartbreaking to read but I hope she comes back stronger.
Re: Bhuvana Kalva thread
Players who overcome adversity in their personal lives usually emerge stronger after it. I hope she channels the inner strength to cope from this personal loss into a great tennis future - my best wishes for her success!
I think the hard work, in her case, will make her into a much better tennis player.
Interestingly I played Ilyas Ghouse in the Nationals in 1969 - I think I must have won it because I played Anand Amritraj after that in the quarterfinals and lost. It would be great to catch up with Ilyas again when I am in India next...I hope he remembers.
The above article refers to Ilyas as her coach...in case anyone is wondering about the context.

Re: Bhuvana Kalva thread
So sad to hear. Her breakup was a big news back in Hyderabad with all the drama that media needs to keep it in news headlines for a few days. My mom kept telling me about this player named Bhuvana Reddy but never related her name to Bhuvana Kalva - its only now that I re-reviewed on YouTube and it was so sad. Glad she is out of the whole thing and hopefully back to her best physically and mentally.

Re: Bhuvana Kalva thread
Sad story indeed, that she gave up such a promising tennis career in order to get married, and then the marriage didn’t work out. It’ll be great if she can regain full form, fitness and motivation.

Re: Bhuvana Kalva thread
Looks like Bhuvana injured herself as she had to retire from the singles match and also give a walkover for doubles QF.
