Sowjanya Bavisetti thread
Sowjanya earns her thread the hard way -- by making the singles final of a Futures in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. We normally start player threads for those who win a Futures, but a final overseas is almost as good as a title in India. Sowjanya has been enterprising over the past year, playing in tournaments in Turkey, France, and (especially) Egypt (this is her fifth Futures at Sharm el-Sheikh in 2013!). Sowjanya has also won three doubles titles in 2013 -- at Sharm el-Sheikh, Hyderabad and Delhi -- and made another couple of doubles finals. At 19 (she turns 20 this December), Sowjanya is another exciting new talent emerging from India.

Re: Sowjanya Bavisetti thread
Yes, 19 year old Sowjanya has come up really well in last year or so . She was never so good in juniors reaching a high ranking of only 274 although she did win a title abroad at grade 5 level in Jordan. In pros she has started making news this year with some good performances. Her game seems to have clearly benefitted from her stints aborad.
From her photos on facebook page, it appears that she is left handed & has a very good height , probably being the tallest among current Indian players. Hope she attains greater heights in her performances at pro level.
Just feel that there are lot many Indians who are now doing better aborad at futures level then before. Perhaps, we should have a thread which summarises these good performances in a year with comparision to previous year. I will try to do it when I find time , either today or some other time.

Re: Sowjanya Bavisetti thread
Agree with both of you. Sowjanya has really been a bit of a surprise, compared to her junior exploits. 19 is unusually late for somebody to start making a mark, especially on the women's side - but I am not complaining at all. Go Sowjanya.

Re: Sowjanya Bavisetti thread
Another young Indian girl on the rise. Maybe the future is a lot brighter for female tennis than the males for India with a whole generation of new players coming through. Sania effect?

Re: Sowjanya Bavisetti thread
Bhuvana Kalva (wta ranking #763) doesnt have her own thread. I'm too lazy to create one for her. But she deserves one. Right? @pkb

Re: Sowjanya Bavisetti thread
Sad that Sowjanya seems to be injured just when things were looking up for her.
Bhuvana Kalva thread
Surprising that she has not played anywhere since winning that tournament couple of months back.
There is already a thread for her -Saniapower wrote:Bhuvana Kalva (wta ranking #763) doesnt have her own thread. I'm too lazy to create one for her. But she deserves one. Right? @pkb

I am certain these people have monetary problems. Winning a future doesn't pay you much

Re: Sowjanya Bavisetti thread
So Mr Basu had already created Bhuvana Kalva thread. I somehow missed it.
