As we discussed, extensively in the French open thread, Prajnesh narrowly missed out on making the main draw at French open.

Now, he plays his first round singles match at Vicenza today itself.

At $50K(+H) Vicenza Challenger, Italy (Clay)

[R1] Prajnesh Gunneswaran (IND,183) vs. Salvatore Caruso (ITA,228)

Repeat of last week's French open Q1 match which Prajnesh won in straight sets. If Prajnesh can get over his disappointment on missing out on Wilmbledon, he should win this.

Sameer you mean "missing out on French open"?

Yes, missing French open. My mistake.

Ridiculously tough field here for a small challenger.

Prajnesh lost the first set in Vicenza 1-6 to the same guy he thrashed in Q1 of the French Open. Yesterday's whirlwind seems to have affected him badly. I hope he pulls himself together quickly.

Now he has been broken in the first game of the second set. 16 01

Prajnesh lost 16 46 to Salvator Caruso (ITA, 228), who he had beaten in Q1 at Roland Garros.

Prajnesh was likely distracted after the excitement of the LL saga. Also, the Italian was likely a tougher out in his home country. Hopefully, Prajnesh can put this behind him and keep up his recent good form since the Davis Cup.

Yes, let him make some time to get over the disappointment of missing a grand slam and almost giving up about €20,000. He is scheduled to take a week off next week and then start with grass challengers.

This is an article from sportsstar -

Prajnesh Gunneswaran, not an unlucky loser

Communicated with Prajnesh. He is planning to return to active action next week, but hasn't yet decided where. I think it will depend on where he makes it to a main draw.

I think if he makes the main draw at Nottingham challenger he will go there. If he has to play qualies there, there may be a chance of playing ATP qualies too either Stuttgart or Den Bosch the way the cut is dropping there. So, if he is playing qualies, might as take a chance to play ATP qualies.

I don't see Prajnesh's name on any of Alternates or Qualifying entry lists for the week ahead, which is what makes me a bit anxious. Have you seen his name anywhere?

Menstennisforums shows #178 as the last name on the qualifying Alternates list at DenBosch, and #180 as the last name for Stuttgart (both only slightly above Prajnesh's ranking).

Good news. Prajnesh is in the QD of Stuttgart ATP seeded 8th and will face Evan King from Chicago. H2H stands 2-1 in favour of our guy. Let's hope Prajnesh wins :D
