Pragnesh woeful run continues as he bows out in straight sets
A match he should have won considering similar rankings and also having an advantage of being a better clay courter than his opponent.
In fact he started well and broke for a 3-1 lead but couldn't capitalise and quickly got broken.
The writing was already on the wall when in the first set  while serving 4-5 and 40 love up he barely managed to hold after  saving  3 or 4 set points and from that point onwards always struggled , and eventually went down in straight sets 5-7,3-6.

Prajnesh is making full transition to challenger tour this year and is finding it difficult to match his game to the players at this level. This is typical of most Indian players. Very few Indians players have good success ratio at challenger level. Even RamK who has been trying at it for last 2-3 years has only 42% success ratio at challenger level. Of the current players, Yuki and Saketh are the ones with decent success ratio at challenger level, Yuki at 62% and Saketh at 58%. Even Somdev was only at 57%.

Succeeding week in and week out on challenger tour is not easy and only those who manage to do it can make the next transition to top 100 and ATP tour level.

Prajnesh is at a new career high of #256 this week. He has only 5 more points to defend till end July. So, he needs to earn only around 25-30 points in next 1 months and he will get inside top 240 and ensure that he plays his first grand slam qualies at US open.

He will be at couple of $25K futures in China for next 2 weeks trying to garner as many points as possible.

Prajnesh wins the $25K futures title in Kunshan,China winning all his match in straight sets beating the Chinese top seed Zhe Li in the final. This is his 7th futures title, third of this year and first one at $25K ( previously $15K) level.

27 points from this title which will get updated only in 2 weeks time post Wimbledon. He has 5 points dropping off in that week. So, net he will add 22 points which will take him around 230-235 in the rankings which almost ensures him entry in US open qualifying draw ( The cut off last year was 249). Of course, he can add more points to it next week to make the spot it even more secure.

Impressive run from Prajnesh this season and he will go to a career high live ranking of 234.

So 2 of the top 3 Indians are at their career highs and Balaji is just off it. Bit unfortunate with Sumit's injury as he looked prime to break into the top 300 for the first time in his career.

With many withdrawals Prajnesh even manages to get a seeding at the Quito Challenger and thus avoids stronger players in opening round and now faces 315 ranked Marcelo Arevalo, The El Salvadorean this year has played all the GS qualies plus many ATP's qualies indicating he had a high ranking in the year until the USO and the present fall to 315 indicates his game is heading south and hope Prajnesh can take care of him .
