What a comeback from Prajnesh. Was 1-4 down in third set. From there won 5 straight games to win the set and the match.

At Monterrey Challenger 100, Mexico

[SF] (7) Prajnesh Gunneswaran (IND,278) d. Go Soeda (JPN,275) 67(7) 76(4) 64

With that win Prajnesh is back up to 232 in live rankings. Getting back into grand slam qualies range. Still has 58 points to defend in April though. If he can win the title here that will make his safe for French open and Wimbledon qualies even if he does not win anything in next couple of months.

Tough match in final though.

[F] (7) Prajnesh Gunneswaran (IND,278) vs. (1) Fernando Verdasco (ESP,150)

Congrats to Prajnesh for making finals!

Now he has to make Verdasco of old back into old Verdasco!

This is excellent. Just in the nick of time, to keep his ranking up. So great to see Gunner back to gunning!

232 in the live rankings and a win will get him to 204 , but first things first has a tough job on hand against an pedigree opponent to reach 204.

Those 58 points are spread over 3 week in April and would have ample chance's to defend during the 3 to 4 weeks of tournament play , but the bad news is that ,for this month of March he hasn't entered any where and looks like would only be back in April.

Yes but everything in April and May is on clay. So, not easy to earn points for Prajnesh. He may be try challenger series on green clay in US in April.

He lost in a close match in final

At Monterrey Challenger 100, Mexico

[F] (7) Prajnesh Gunneswaran (IND,278) l.(1) Fernando Verdasco (ESP,150) 64 36 67(3)

Praj came from a break down in third set and broke Verdasco when he served for the match at 5-4 but Verdasco was too good in the tie break.

Anyway, great week for Praj after long time.

Just realised that Praj has entered couple of 25k's in California in next couple of weeks. After this run he may not feel the need to play these futures. But, with nothing else to play, he can use these to sharpen his game and earn some points to bridge the points that he is losing in April.

Prajnesh mentioned that he has issues with his knee during Vishnu's interview with him (for ITD). He might benefit from taking a week off.
VR: You’ve been playing with a knee band. Can you share a bit more detail?

PG: Yes my knee has been hurting a little bit since Davis cup. It was light pain over there but has started to act up a little bit more now. I’m just managing it and we’ll see how it goes after this week.

Yes, if knee is bad he should play only 1 of those 2 weeks and if it is too bad just skip these 2 weeks and come back fully fit in April.

A terrific week for Prajnesh as he surprised us with his gritty performance ... Lot of good things to take from his final loss.
Remain fit Prajnesh.

Excellent week for Prajnesh in Monterrey (Mexico), but I wish he had beaten Verdasco (now aged 38) in the final. It would have been a memorable scalp -- and looked a real possibility after Prajnesh won the first set. Sad that he couldn't finish the job. Worrying knee problems are such an ongoing issue with our players :-(

Prajnesh advance's to the QF with a 63 75 win , up next is the 6th seed, should aim for the maximum 25 points at this tourney.

True, that is the only way for him to redeem something from these futures. He could have made both of the challengers on hard court in Europe. Now that he decided to play these futures, he has to maximise the points. Next match will be tough though. 20 year old Andreev reached a challenger SF in January and has reguarly played challenger over last 1 year.
