Divij Sharan / Purav Raja (pair) thread ...

Post by prashanthm »

$35K+H San Luis Potosi CH - Red Clay

Painful loss for Divij in R1 of Qualifying, jet lag may be? :-(

Purav/Divij are the top seeded pair in Doubles.... :goodluck:

[R1] (1) Purav Raja (IND,137) / Divij Sharan (IND,109) v. Nikoloz Basilashvili (GEO,1404) / Malek Jaziri (TUN,757)

A title here will get Divij back into the Top-100, while helping Purav to ~120....... :D

I don't think it's the jet lag. He must have enjoyed the business class flight, had enough sleep with lot's of leg space. I think it's only 'lag' The jet however, was great and will always contribute to the betterment of Indian tennis.

Arjun, we all know that Divij's singles ranking is where it is because of not getting much of a chance to play singles. More than the result, it was the scoreline that was painful to see....

At $35K+H San Luis Potosi CH - Red Clay

[R1] (1) Purav Raja (IND,137) / Divij Sharan (IND,109) d. Nikoloz Basilashvili (GEO,1404) / Malek Jaziri (TUN,757) 64 62

Good start with a win over a pair which is ranked low in doubles but are ranked close to 100 in singles.

[QF] (1) Purav Raja (IND,137) / Divij Sharan (IND,109) v. Dusan Lojda (CZE,767) / Johm Millman (AUS,355)

Again, playing a primarily singles pair trying their hand in doubles.

Another convincing win for Divij & Purav to take them into SF.

Next,

[SF] (1) Purav Raja (IND,137) / Divij Sharan (IND,109) v. Marco Chiudinelli (SUI,1277) / Peter Gojowczyk (GER,1155)

Playing third consecutive pair of singles specialists.

[QF] (1) Purav Raja (IND,137) / Divij Sharan (IND,109) d. Dusan Lojda (CZE,767) / John Millman (AUS,355) 62 64

Easy win again for the top seeded Indian pair to move into the semi-finals....
2 more wins to go to make this count the fullest.... GL

$35K+H San Luis Potosi CH - Red Clay

[SF] (1) Purav Raja (IND,137) / Divij Sharan (IND,109) l. Marco Chiudinelli (SUI,151s) / Peter Gojowczyk (GER,170s) 67(3) 76(7) 01(11)

Tough and painful loss for Purav/Divij in a 2 hour tussle that ended in a match tie-break... Purav/Divij saved at least 4 match points (from 3-6 in 2nd set TB and at 8-9 in the MTB) and couldn't convert two match points (at 10-9 & 11-10 in MTB) of their own and lost in SF... :-(

Divij will be at #106 and Purav at #134 in next week's list.......

GL for next week's Leon CH...... :goodluck:

Close loss indeed.

Making challenger Semi finals ( & even finals) will not be enough now Divij & Purav to move up much further in the rankings. They need challenger titles ( & a string of them) to move up inside top 75 which will enable them to play ATP events. They should perhaps try to play as many higher level ( $100K & $125K challengers ) as possible as the reward in terms of points are higher with only a slighlty tougher draw. But, that is tough to co-ordinate with such challengers taking place at far flung places around the world. It is a tough climb ahead for these 2 .

Really tough loss for them but still good performance on clay though they were #1 seed.

Much tougher draw this week at Leon & Divij/Purav are seeded fourth this time. Further, they get a pair who seem to have just missed a seeding in first round .

At $35K +H Leon Challenger , Mexico

[R1] (4) Purav Raja (IND,134) / Divij Sharan (IND,106) v. Hsin-Han Lee (TPE,101) / Hsein-Yin Peng (TPE,153)

It shouldn't matter if they have ambitions to play on the ATP tour. They have to beat these guys and consistently contend for challenger titles. Both of them need to first get their rankings below 100 (and then below 75).
