Re: Pranjala Yadlapalli thread
At the $25,000 USD Osaka ITF, Japan (Hard-Outdoor):
[R1] Pranjala YADLAPALLI (IND, 296) d [Q] Ari MATSUMOTO (JPN,669) 3-6 7-5 6-0
Pranjala was staring at a defeat when she was down 3-6 0-3. I stopped following the match. So I was happy to see her snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Re: Pranjala Yadlapalli thread
Pranjala lost in straight sets.
At the $25,000 USD Osaka ITF, Japan (Hard-Outdoor):
[R2] Pranjala YADLAPALLI (IND,296) l. (5) Mayo HIBI (JPN,246) 36 16
Probably she is not still 100% or still not match fit at least. Else, she would not be losing that badly against a player ranked 246.

Re: Pranjala Yadlapalli thread
As expected, with her Andijan final points updated, Pranjala is at a new career high of 266. Lets hope the injury due to which she retired last week is not so serious. If she can play injury free, her ranking can go up fast in new couple of months.

Re: Pranjala Yadlapalli thread
After Sumit, Pranjala too got an opportunity to play a tournament in Australia and won that.
Pranjala reaps lockdown dividend with UTF Pro title
She had been injured for some time, so good to her back competing.

Re: Pranjala Yadlapalli thread
Pranjala is playing in the UTR Melbourne series hosted by Tennis Australia. The format is a round robin among two groups followed by a playoff for final positions (Rank 1 from each group, Rank 2 from each group and so on). Pranjala has won her first two matches;
Pranjala Yadlapalli (UTR 10.7) b Daria Gavrilova (UTR 12.44) 4-6 6-4, Super tiebreak: 10-6 (Garilova is a former top 20 player)
Pranjala Yadlaplli (UTR 10.7) b Alana Parnaby (UTR 10.57) 6-4 4-6, 10-7
I am not sure if it is a four player or three player group. Need to login to see the draws but I don't have one.

Re: Pranjala Yadlapalli thread
Very impressive results from Pranjala, although it's a pity these results will not affect her WTA ranking. The fact that the matches are ending in super tiebreaks rather than full third sets also slightly diminishes the value of the results. Daria Gavrilova is currently ranked 446 (because of an injury break last year), but she did make R2 of the French Open this year. So that is a truly impressive win for Pranjala.
Alana Parnaby is a 26-year-old Aussie ranked 643 (career-high 608), so that is a much less impressive performance.

Re: Pranjala Yadlapalli thread
I think it is okay that these matches do not help Pranjala go up the WTA rankings. She is getting to play against decent players.
[F] (4) Pranjala Yadlapalli (UTR 11.08) vs (2) Storm Sanders(UTR, 12.03, WTA 282)
Pranjala's UTR has gone up. According to the UTR site, she hasn't played enough matches for her ranking to stabilise. Hope she is playing in the third round of the event as well.

Re: Pranjala Yadlapalli thread
I just saw photos of Pranjala from here recent matches at the Indian Tennis Digest page. She has put on some muscle and looks a lot stronger. Full credit to Paul (a physio_ and Stacey Ness who have helped her with improving her fitness in addition to hosting her in Australia.

Re: Pranjala Yadlapalli thread
Pranjala is in the US to compete in a couple of ITF tournaments starting next week. She has made the main draw acceptance list at the $25K Redding (CA) ITF next week and is in the alternates list at the $25K Florence (SC), the week after. Hoping for a good return to the Pro tour after such a long covid break.

Re: Pranjala Yadlapalli thread
^^^ I thought Pranjala played in Europe in some events recently. I didn't follow closely though.

Re: Pranjala Yadlapalli thread
No. Pranjala was in Australia during the lockdown last year and stayed there for many months and played some UTR events there and performed quite well in those. I think she returned back to India sometime early this year and these will be her first pro tour event since December 2019.

Re: Pranjala Yadlapalli thread
^^^ Oh ok... Then I am confusing with others who went to Europe. So it is pretty much a 2-year break for her from pro events. All the best to her!
