Re: Ankita Raina thread
Watching Ankita play after a long time and its a total delight.
She is hitting pretty decent strong groundstrokes on both the flanks.
She pushed Wangs 1st game to several deuces but couldnt capitalised on the break points she was offered.
If she continues to keep up that intensity i am sniffing a huge upset.
Urghhh!!!!Just i am writing covers are being drawn out.All of a sudden its pouring heavily.
Play has been suspended.
Score: On serve Ankita is 2-1 up.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
5-2
5-3 Wang serving to stay in the 1st set. AR had a set point at 30-40 but was saved. Only 1/7 on break points for Ankita
5-4 0-15, 15-15, 15-30(2S), 15-40, 30-40, Deuce (5/5 bpts saved), Ad-out(2S), Game
5-5 15-0, 30-0, 40-0, Game
Going to stop following seeing as I seem to have jinxed this as soon as I started following it.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Damn, from 5-2 to 5-5 for Ankita.
But, from 15-30 down, Ankita wins the next 3 points to hold for 6-5.
Wang holds at 30 for 6-6.
1-0, 1-1,1-2,2-2,2-3 (MB down), 3-3 (back on serve),3-4, 4-4, 4-5 (MB down), 4-6, 4-7.
Ankita loses the first set 67(4). Opportunity missed after being 5-2 up and having a set point.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
In second set, from 1-3 down, Ankita won 4 straight games to go up 5-3, then had a set point on Wang serve at 40-30 but could not convert. Now, she is serving at 5-4.
And gets broken for 5-5. . Looking like a repeat of first set.
Ankita missed another breakpoint at 40-30 in next game and then got broken to love.
At $125K Kunming Open 2018, Anning, China
[R2] Ankita Raina (IND,193) l. (2) Yafan Wang (CHN,86) 67(4) 57
Ankita had her chances to win both the sets but Wang played better on key points. Still a good match against a top 100 player.
But, now Ankita needs to have a big next week at $60K Luan to make sure she gets in at Wimbledon qualies.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
If ever there was a match that should have been won rather than lost then this was it. Opportunities in both sets for it to have been the opposite score. Somehow got to take the positives that she was able to do this to a top 100 player.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
The good news is that she was able to take the lead and break first in both sets against a top-100 player.
Unfortunately the bad news is that she couldn’t close the deal in either set.
She will soon be able to pull off these wins.
Now at a career high of 190 despite the loss.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Ankita definitely has the game and the fitness to reach top-150 (or even top-100 in the next couple of years). She posted a couple of videos on Instagram saying she wanted to practice few shots after her R1 win on Monday and that she had to do it by herself without someone feeding the balls or a hitting partner. I think this was an indirect message to let whoever know that she deserves a traveling coach, which she truly DESERVES.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
What a wonderful article, and a heartening and heart-warming story. Go Ankita! I'm sure she'll make her presence felt at Roland Garros from Tuesday onwards.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Ankita is at a new career high singles ranking of 181 this week. She will fall a bit in 2 weeks time to around 210 when she loses Luan 60K runner up points from last year. But, hope she has a good run in FO qualifying and later in grass season to quickly get back those lost points.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
As expected, Ankita falls outside top 200 and is ranked #208 this week. This the ranking which will count for Wimbledon qualies as there will be no ranking update next week due to French open. Last year's final cut off for Wimbledon qualies was 222 ( although the initial cut was 202). Looks like Ankita has a fair chance of making it in the final cut off.

Ankita is facing American lucky loser in the first round ... This is a good chance for Ankita to start grass season with a win.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Yes, this looks like a good break, although her low-ranked opponent took Asia Muhammad (USA, 242; CH 124 in 4/2017) to a third set tiebreaker in FQR.
If she wins, Ankita will play Connie Perrin (SUI, 193) in R2. Perrin beat Evgenia Rodina (the player Ankita lost to in Q1 of the French Open) in a close 3-setter in R1. (Btw, Rodina lost in FQR of the French Open to former champion Francesca Schiavone 0 and 1) .
Definitely, a good opportunity here for Ankita to progress quite far in this draw. QF could be against Heather Watson (GBR, 80).

A very bad loss on the grass for Ankita against journey woman on the WTA tour.
