One walkover is always useful in the week before a Slam -- when, ideally, you need some tough matches, but not too many of them! Patricia Maria Tig (ROM, 113) lost recently (October 2019) in the final of a 25K ITF tournament in Seville (Spain) to Arantxa Rus (Netherlands), the player who Ankita beat in the final of the ITF Singapore 63 62 (a match I watched almost exactly a year ago!). So I feel pretty confident about the upcoming SF.

Yes, good fortune for her to be getting a win without playing and more importantly also getting an extra day off.

18 points far for Ankita this week. This should take her to around 168-170 in the rankings. A win in next match against top seed Patricia Maria Tig will take her to a new career high and somewhere inside top 160.

What a nice way to start the year, with a $25K semifinal! Go Ankita. Tough but not impossible SF.

So, when you get a walkover does the WTA also require you to win the next match to get the points? Or do you automatically get points for reaching a certain level in a tournament?

Ankita will get points for Semi final. I think that rule of having to win the next round to get walkover points is only when someone has a bye in the first round and then gets a walkover in the next round. Not quite sure of that too but Ankita will surely get SF points.

Yes, she will get the SF points. Sameer is correct. The no-point rule only applies to those who don't have at least one main draw win. If you have one win, then you get the points for the round after a walkover. That is my understanding.

Congratulations to Ankita for winning her sixth 25K title this week in Thailand.

These are details of her title run this week.

[R1] (3) Ankita Raina (IND,171) d. Channel Simmonds (RSA,351) 61 61
[R2] (3) Ankita Raina (IND,171) d. Nicoleta-Catalina Dascalu (ROM,280) 76(1) 62
[QF] (3) Ankita Raina (IND,171) d. Simona Waltert (SUI,279) 64 46 64
[SF] (3) Ankita Raina (IND,171) d. Leonie Kung (SUI,324) 63 61
[F] (3) Ankita Raina (IND,171) d. (4) Chloe Paquet (FRA,178) 63 75

Ankita would fall to around 197-199 in the WTA ranking this Monday as her Singapore title and AO Q2 points fall off this week. But, now with this title she will get back 50 points and move back up to around 175 in Feb 10 rankings.

Ankita is playing in the Thailand Open and having a decent draw ... She is facing a top-130 Polish girl, Katarzyna Kawa ... In the doubles, Ankita has a knack of selecting a Dutch partner, this time Rosalie Van Der Hoek ... They r facing Desirae Krawczyk and Xiaodi You.

At $252K GSB Thailand Open 2020, Hua Hin, Thailand

[R1] Ankita Raina (IND,198) vs Katarzyna Kawa (POL,127)

Doubles
[R1] Ankita Raina (IND)/ Rosalie Van Der Hoek (NED) vs Desirae Krawczyk (USA)/ Xiaodi You (CHN)

Ankita won the first set, but has suffered a meltdown since, losing 9 games in a row:

[R1] Ankita Raina (IND,198) vs Katarzyna Kawa (POL,127) 63 06 16

Ankita ended her 10-game losing streak by breaking her opponent to make it 1-4, but then was again broken at love. Perhaps there is an injury hampering her serving?? The stats confirm that she was serving well in the first set (with a 59% winning percent on first serves), but she won just 2 of 10 points on first serve in set 3 (and none on the second serve), and did only a bit better in set 2 (1 of 6 first serve points won, 2 of 9 second serve points).

Something must have hampered her play. She does not fold like that too often. Hope it is nothing serious.

I was following the scoreboard intermittently and after second set they had a break in the play due to heat factor as mentioned in the scoreboard. Did that affect her ? But, then heat would affect the European more. This or something else but usually Ankita is a fighter and pulls out matches from a set down and not vice versa as happened here.

Ankita seems to be OK in the doubles match. She and her partner have won the first set 6-4, and are serving at 2-1 in the second set.
