This is such a strong field (MD cut off at <160 and OG gold medalist Monica Puig is #3 seed) and IIRC, this is the first time Ankita is playing in the USTA pro circuit. I hope she is able to compete with the local pros and win a couple of matches!

Ankita got double bageled. This score line doesn’t make sense to me considering she didn’t play a full 3 set match (rather an STB).

3 matches in one day must have taken their toll. It is very unusual for her to be double-bageled, especially by a lower-ranked player.

^^^Ankita didn’t play 3 matches. Singles QR1 was played on Monday followed by FQR on Tuesday and the doubles R1 later in the evening. Considering she came back to win doubles, she was clearly outplayed by the Romanian.

This is such a good win. Kateryna had some good wins over the last season. I’m shocked at the shellacking from Ankita! :notworthy:

That's a wonderful scalp for Ankita, beating the former world #29 by a 6-1, 6-1 scoreline! Kateryna Bondarenko is a former Wimbledon junior singles champion (having beaten Ana Ivanovic in the final!). Just last month, she made R2 in the main draw of the US Open. Her form has been mercurial of late, and her ranking has collapsed after a year off the tour last year, but this is still a terrific win for Ankita.

Bondarenko is what 34. Although it is not that old in today's tennis world, she is not the same after giving birth to two kids, I think. A good win, yes. Any win at this level is good. A great one, meh.

Ankita’s FQR match was supposed to be played yesterday but then rescheduled to today as the weather has been causing a delay all this week (because of the hurricane down south) and the tournament organizers now have moved all the pending Q matches to the indoor courts at the SMU tennis facility in Dallas (which is about 2h on the road). Hope Ankita were able to practice and is fully charged to defeat Tessah and qualify for the main draw amidst all of this mess!

Ankita seems to be in a rich vein of form. I hope she can sustain it in the main draw.
They still haven't placed the qualifiers into the main draw. A couple of qualifiers will play each other, but one will play Sara Errani (ITA, 131) the former world #5 :-(
