Re: Ankita Raina thread
In the final, she is facing the top-seed Dutch girl, Arantxa Rus ... Arantxa was a ranked #61 in 2012, so has experience of playing on the higher level.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
What a fine run by Ankita. She shows no signs of slowing down, which is nice to see. Some very good wins here so far.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Yes, excellent run by her in one of the most competitive competitive 25K tournaments one would encounter where she was not even seeded. She beat 2 top 150 players in straight sets here indicating that she is ready to take the next step to top 150 level. Lets see how she fares in the final against a former top 60 level player.

Terrific run by Ankita in Singapore. She has taken out the 8th and 3rd seeds in the QF and SF, and hopefully will have the top seed’s scalp today.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Spectacular first set from Ankita. She broke early and sped to a 4-1 lead before finishing off the last game at 15 to take the set 6-3

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Already at a career high of 180, Ankita will rise to 168 if she wins two more games.
Arantxa finally held serve after two deuces. 6-3, 4-1

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Her return of serve and ground-strokes are very impressive, as is her athleticism. She totally dominated the top-seed, who has a very powerful serve, and a lot of power in her strokes too — but Ankita bends low to generate even more power off her returns. If she plays like this, Ankita should be in the top-100 by mid-year.
Next week, she plays here again (in Singapore), followed by Thailand and the Fed Cup. I had a brief chat with her after the match. She is still employed by ONGC, which provides useful support, and continues to have her travel sponsored by the Gujarat government — which makes it much easier to sustain her pro career.
