Amazing run by Ankita!!
Didn't see her as being better in doubles than singles but clearly those Indian genes mean something in doubles!

Congratulations to see Ankita win a title! I have a soft spot for her as she is a fighter and has a huge heart.

For those qualities, she is quite rightly a big favourite for us all. We want her to keep winning, because she embodies all the qualities that are ideal in a sportsperson.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
She is indeed at 168 in official WTA singles rankings. Live rankings were wrong.sameerph wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 2:47 pm Yes, they updated her doubles ranking and it is correct now.
Her singles ranking on that live ranking site is wrong. She cannot have 486 points anda ranking of 155. She is not adding that many points from her current tally.
By my calculation, she should be at 446 points and a ranking of 168.
They were right in doubles now. She is into top 100 for the first time in her career at 94.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
After losing in the first round of the Adelaide WTA500 qualifying event, Ankita has left Australia as per her Instagram update. Wondering if she’s traveling home or to Qatar as she’s only 2 spots away from the qualification entry list cut-off.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
It looks like we will see Ankita heading to Mexico next for the 2 WTA tournaments starting March 8th. With her new top-100 ranking, she already made the doubles main draw cut with Polish partner Paula Kania.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Yes, with that top-100 doubles ranking, Ankita will be able to make some good money playing main draws in WTA tournaments -- and trying to qualify into singles. But she will also need to keep playing the ITF and Challenger-type tournaments to preserve and build on her singles ranking.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Yes, Ankita pulled out of Pune 25K before the withdrawal deadline got over. So, looks she will go and play in these 2 Mexico WTA 250's. She would comfortably get into both doubles draws. Hopefully, she will get into singles qualifying draw too. Currently, she is about 14 out from the singles qualies cut.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Ankita has reached Mexico already and is now only 5 spots away from making the qualifying draw cut-off. Hopefully, she will make it in. First week in Guadalajara, she’s partnering Paula Kania in the main draw and the second week, with Dalila Jakupovic.

That is a long trip to the beautiful city of Gudalajara. Wonder when it was that any Indian woman went to Mexico to play... Can't remember.

Great decision to travel to Mexico for a couple of tournaments, where she can capitalize on her new doubles ranking. I believe she's been there for awhile already.

Exciting opportunity to play the 2012 FO singles finalist and USO semifinalist -- who was also doubles #1 for the next two years.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Yes, and she is putting up a very gutsy performance, so far. Match tied at 1-set all, 1-game all, the Italian to serve in the deciding set.
Ankita leads 4-2 in the 3rd set. Sara to serve. There have been so many break exchanges in this match - 13 games, to be exact.
Ankita breaks Sara again. Serving for the match now at 5-2. Ankita is broken to love. 5-3 Italian on serve. Anki still can win this if she manages to hold her service game. She has done it. Ankita breaks her opponent for a 4th time in the 3rd set to upset the former world #5.
Final score 2-6 6-4 6-3.
