Ankita lost 6-4 6-4. Unless there’s a lucky loser spot opens up till tomorrow and that she’s lucky enough to grab that, she’s off to Orlando next week where she will be one of the top 8 seeds in the main draw.

Good show but expected result. Still, she’s the only one with consistent results in Indian tennis today. Performs well at her level and occasionally does better. The score line is decent too.

Unfortunately,Ankita lost in first round.

At $25K ITF Women, Orlando,Florida, USA

[R1] (4) Ankita Raina (IND,179) l. Catherine Harrison (USA,281) 46 57

So, that is the end of somewhat unsuccessful US tour for Ankita and mostly the end of season for her.

Ankita must have received a wild card to the main draw of the $100K+H Dubai ITF. She’s in already there with a coach and is #11 in the Q entry list but is not found in the Q draw. Hopefully, she did get the WC.

Ankita indeed received a MDWC. But she has a tough round 1 match against Czech player Katerina Siniakova.

Yes, it is a tough match against the world #64, who has a career high of 31 from 2 years ago. The only slight solace is that she has a winning percentage of 41% on hard courts (vs 56% on clay).

W100+H Dubai

[R1] WC-Ankita Raina (IND, 180) l. 5-Katerina Siniakova (CZE, 64) 61 26 26

Terrific first set from Ankita, but perhaps she put too much into that set. 72 points to 80, so it was a hard fought match. Ankita couldn't put much pressure on Katerina's serve in the final set. For the match as a whole, each player had 10 break points, of which Ankita converted 4 while Katerina converted 6. That was the key difference in the match.

Ankita has made it to the doubles final here.

At $100K(+H) ITF Women, Dubai

[R1] Ankita Raina (IND) / Ekaterine Gorgodze (GEO) d. Reka-Luca Jani (HUN) / Aleksandra Krunic (SRB) 76(5) 63
[QF] Ankita Raina (IND) / Ekaterine Gorgodze (GEO) d. (2) Kirsten Flipkens (BEL) / Andreja Klepac (SLO) 76(3) 61
[SF] Ankita Raina (IND) / Ekaterine Gorgodze (GEO) d. Anna Blinkova (RUS) / Heather Watson (GBR) 67(3) 63 10-2

Next,

[F] Ankita Raina (IND) / Ekaterine Gorgodze (GEO) vs. Aliona Bolsova Zadoinov (ESP) / Kaja Juvan (SLO)

Very good run to the final at this big event.

In singles, Katerina who beat Ankita in first round has gone on to reach the final. So, Ankita was unfortunate to get her in first round.

As per the report, Ankita and Gorgodze were trailing 2-5 down in the Match Tie-Breaker and won 6 consecutive points from 4-6 ... This win also helped in the ranking as Ankita will reach her career-high doubles ranking of 117.

At $100K(+H) ITF Women, Dubai

Final
Ankita Raina (IND) / Ekaterine Gorgodze (GEO) bt Aliona Bolsova Zadoinov (ESP) / Kaja Juvan (SLO) 64 36 10-6

Congratulations Ankita! I hope her doubles ranking will keep going up, and she will at least have a long doubles career ahead even after her singles days are over.

Congrats to Ankita! Great job winning a doubles title in a 100K(+H) tournament. If she gets her ranking up another 30 places or so, she and Sania might even be able to get an Olympics direct entry in doubles.

The QF win over second seeded Kirsten Flipkens and Andreja Klepac was especially impressive; those two are respectively ranked 30 and 39 in doubles. Ankita was ranked 136, her Georgian partner 140 going into this tournament -- so beating that pair was very impressive indeed.

Sania has a protected ranking of #9. As I understand, she can use that ranking for 12 tournaments in 1 year since her return. And as per Olympic qualification rules, a top 10 player is a guranteed entry with any other player from his federation
So, I guess Sania and Ankita are a guaranteed entry for Tokyo Olympics now. ( provided Olympic happens and Sanis returs to thr competiton.).
