Re: Ankita Raina thread
Unfortunately there is a performance curve. After a point you age catches up. Unless you are Federer or someone exceptional or if you have had great physical training since the beginning. The pandemic made it worse for our cash starved players.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
True, Ankita will now turn 29 in 3 months time. Her singles performances are probably showing a dip because of this.
I do not have much hope against top 50 player Alison Riske today. In doubles too, they have got third seeds in first round itself. Not much luck with draw there too.

Ankita and van der Hoeke played the same pair (Shuai Zhang and Eri Hozumi) last week in R1 as well. Revenge this week?

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Ankita ran into the top seed in R1 of singles at the $100K ITF 03A in the UAE, and went down after a good second set fight:
[R1] Ankita Raina (IND, 189) l. Shuai Zhang (CHN, 62) 16 67(6)
She is also 4th seed in the doubles.
[R1] Ankita Raina (IND, 189) l. Shuai Zhang (CHN, 62) 16 67(6)
She is also 4th seed in the doubles.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Ankita and her partner Tereza Mihailikova won R1 against Ekaterina Yashina and Alena Fomina of Russia 75 75, but lost their QF to another Russian pair (Zakharova/Gabueva) 36 36. As 4th seeds, this was a disappointing outcome.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
With a number of withdrawals today, Ankita now gets a direct entry into the singles draw at the WTA 125 tournament in Angers, France.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Ankita has a good draw (at least for R1), as she plays a 27-year-old Frenchwoman at her career-high ranking of 449 (a wildcard entrant). This is a MUST-WIN for Ankita! Potential R2 opponent is 7-Ocean Dodin (FRA, 90). The top-seed, who was in her quarter of the draw, has withdrawn and been replaced by a lucky loser. But first things first. Let's win R1 without any trouble!

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Horrible loss for Ankita in Angers, France:
[R1] Ankita Raina l. WC-Mallaurie Noel (FRA, 449) 67(8) 36
In doubles, the first round is the QF, but Ankita and her partner are up against the top-seeds, Vera Zvonareva (3 time Slam doubles titlist, now back at 53 in doubles and 87 in singles rankings, at age 37) and Monica Nicolescu (2017 Wimbledon doubles finalist).

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Many of our players are off their peak. Unless someone funds their mojo like Ram did this week, we will see only such kind of results.
