Ankita is next up against a Korean.

At $25K ITF Women, Singapore

[R2] Ankita Raina (IND,203) vs. Na-Lae Han (KOR,219)

Ankita and Han played each other twice last year and it was 1 win each in both 3 set matches. Hope with her improved performance this year, Ankita will prevail this time.

Ankita lost in second round.

At $25K ITF Women, Singapore

[R2] Ankita Raina (IND,203) l. Na-Lae Han (KOR,219) 17 67(5)

Han was serving for the match at 5-3 in the second set. Ankita fought back to go up 6-5 but failed to serve out the set and in the tie break lost 3 straight points from 5-4 up. Thus, after fighting back well she had a chance to take this to third set but could not. Probably a bit of tiredness setting in playing her 7th match in 10 days.

Clearly because she is tired. That is a lot of matches in 10 days, especially against top competition one after another. Jay

Ankita is back in top 200 and at a new career high of #168 in the WTA singles rankings as of today.

She has defended the 12 ranking points that she is losing next week from WTA Taipei with Q1 win at WTA Hua Hin. Next points to defend are in end March where she has 50 points to defend from Gwalior 25K title. So, hoepfully, she will build up some points in next 2 months and go much higher till then.

Did Ankita manage to get a WC for Dubai event?
From her IG story, it seems she is in Dubai.

She is not yet ready to take on top 100 players.
But good to see an Indian playing these WTA events after a long time. More power to her.

Agree. Ankita is currently playing near the top of her talent and skill set. To consistently beat top 100 players, she will probably need to add something to her arsenal. However, it is not clear to me that she has that much runway left in adding to her game although hopeful that she can surprise us...

Ankita is at a new career high of #164 this week. She seems to be off for 2-3 weeks and looks like will be back at $60K in Shenzhen,China in the week of March 11.

Rushing off to play the Dubai qualifiers was a bad move for Ankita. The momentum from her great title win in Singapore has been lost. She needs to get back to playing $25K and $60K tournaments, where she has a chance of winning titles. Then, slowly, transition to higher levels.
