Top seed proved too strong for Ankita.

At $100K ITF Women, Shenzhen, China

[R2] Ankita Raina (IND,197) l. (1) Saisai Zheng (CHN,46) 36 16

Off next week for Taiwan WTA 125K next week for Ankita. Her last year's Mumbai WTA QF points are falling off in a couple of weeks. So, she needs to pick up some points next week to stay in top 200.

Nice win in R1 for Ankita. Unfortunate that she ran into the top seed who is #46 in the world in the next round.

Why is Saisai Zheng playing in a US$100K event? I guess that is why Dinesh (bujilover) called her a vulture.

This player is a Tibetian and her Tibetian name is Suodian Zhuoma.
She could probably the first international Tennis player from Tibet to play on the circuit

Wow, that is a fascinating nugget, although only her father is Tibetan -- and perhaps not from Tibet (ie, the Tibet Autonomous Region, or what the Chinese called Xijang or Outer Tibet) but from "Inner Tibet" (Qinghai, western Sichuan or part of Gansu). Her name "Suodian Xhuoma" doesn't sound like a conventional Tibetan name, but seems instead to be a forced mixture of Chinese and Tibetan elements! Tibetans in Inner Tibet are much more assimilated into the Chinese way of life than Tibetans from the TAR (who were ruled directly by the Dalai Lama in Lhasa). Since she was born in Shaanxi I assume that she is culturally more Chinese than Tibetan.

Ankita is in a tough match with Mihailikova. Lots of breaks, the last one when Ankita was serving for the match at 5-4. Ankita wins the first set in a tie-break. Second set is about to start. Hope that goes easier.

Update: It was 3-3 30-15 in the second set with Ankita serving. She won the next 10 points to take the set and match 6-3. First set took exactly one hour while the second set was done in 38 minutes. Great work from Ankita.

[R1] Ankita Raina (IND,213) d (WC) Tereza Mihaililova (SVK,351) 7-6(3) 6-3

She will potentially meet sixth seed Stefanie Voegele(SUI, 83) in R2.

And with that win, Ankita moves up back inside top 200 ( and India #1). She is ranked 195 in live rankings.

She has 18 points falling off next week. So, she will have to either win her next round match here or reach at least a SF next week in Navi Mumbai 25K to ensure year end top 200 ranking for the first time in her career.

Go Ankita. That is a good position to aim at.

Ankita is playing in a couple of $25K tournaments in Singapore for the next 2 weeks. Very tough draw for 25K tournaments here with Ankita not even being seeded. Looks like lots of players losing in qualifying in Australian open have made their way here which is expected considering that there are very few events in early part of the year.

At $25K ITF Women,Singapore

[R1] Ankita Raina (IND,204) vs. Nudnina Luangnam (THA,824)

Don't know why Karman is not playing here. Would have been for her to get some matches under her belt after losing the the first round of AO qualies.
