Re: Ankita Raina thread
If Sania does return to the circuit as planned in January, she should plan on partnering Ankita at the Olympics. It was a bad error in 2016 to have picked Prarthana Thombare, who had a slightly higher doubles ranking but has never been a better doubles player than Ankita Raina. Now Prarthana is ranked around 407 in doubles, so the decision will be easier anyway.
Ankita is at a new career high of 140 in the live WTA doubles rankings!

And now, this! As though the listless losses by our top players on the male side are not upsetting me enough... Ankita, who typically avoids such bad losses, also joins the party.
$60K ITF Women, Liuzhou, China
[R1] Ankita Raina (IND,181) l. (Q) Ziyue Sun (CHN,360), 26 46

At the $60K ITF Women, Liuzhou, China
[QF] (2) Ankita Raina (IND)/ Rosalie Van der Hoek (NED) d. Anastasia Gasanova (RUS)/ Chanel Simmonds (RSA) 60 46 [10-7]
Our team won the first eight games to lead 60 20, but then got broken twice to 3-4, got a break back, and once again got broken at 4-4. In the super-tiebreaker, our team pulled through. Not sure why the match got so tight after that fast start.

[SF] (2) Ankita Raina (IND)/ Rosalie Van der Hoek (NED) d. Ji Hee Choi (KOR)/ Akiko Omae (JPN) 57 61 [10-7]
so
[F] (2) Ankita Raina (IND)/ Rosalie Van der Hoek (NED) vs (1) Xinyu Jiang (CHN)/ Qianhui Tang (CHN)
That will move Ankita up a few spots to a new career high inside #135 in doubles. It is a repeat of the final last week which the Chinese pair won in an STB.

So a repeat loss against the same team in the final, like in the last week.

So a very bad day for Ankita. I hope she is not injured or anything. Quite uncharacteristic of her to lose two sets at 16 06 after winning a set, to a lower ranked player. Oh well.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Ankita had a close 3-setter against Diatchenko at Wimbledon last year. She is 0-3 against Diatchenko but hopefully she will win this time!
29 year old Diatchenko achieved her career high rank of 71 exactly 5 years ago.
