She made it to the Q list after being the #4th alternate in the initial list. The QD cut off is 330 at the moment. Karman should really be targeting these low-level Asian WTA events when she gets a chance.

Hoping for for some few good wins for Ankita :goodluck:
She gets to play wild card Cornelia Lister in first round of qualifiers. She is ranked 429. Raina should start the year with a win.

No. She could not get the in the doubles draw, it seems. Still, a good outing for Ankita. She gets 12 WTA points which will take her close to top 250 and $1020 which should more than cover her travel expenses for this trip.

Also good for her to get some match practice before Fed cup in 2 week's time.

Very nice article and thanks for the summary, Sameer! Very impressive. However, I remember she had very similar results in the last Fed Cup too (with 2 upsets of players in top-100 (or close to). She does seem to really thrive when she has her team or coach around her.

Hope things work out now with TOPS or via an independent sponsor. :goodluck:

Ankita got lucky as Bondarenko pulled out and Krejcikova was still playing doubles in Doha.
She is set to face Samantha Stosur who received a WC and is seeded no3 in Q1 today.

I was surprised when I saw her name in the live scores. Ankita is trailing 3-5 against Sam Stosur in the first set, on serve. Great opportunity for Ankita and she picks up a $2K already for QR1.

Ankita lost 4-6 4-6. Valiant effort - hope she sustains the momentum.

That is a pretty good scoreline against current top 50 and former 5 player.

Ankita's game certainly appears to be on upswing from late last year.Hope she continues to play this way and ranking will follow upwards.

Yes, fighting performance ... As in this match, both players created ten break point chances, Stosur converted four and Ankita managed to convert two.

Ankita is on the entry list of $60,000 Zhuhai ITF where she will have to qualify for the MD. It's a tougher entry list with the MD cut off being 186.

The qualifying entry list itself looks like a CH MD entry list. Let's hope Anki wins a round or 2. :goodluck:

The cuts at this time of the year tend to be very high. Last year too Ankita played in qualies of first 2 challengers in this China series but lost in Q1. I don't know if it is worthwhile going there for this. She may be better off playing $25K in Gwalior the week after where she may be seeded.

In today's WTA rankings update, Ankita is back into top 250 after more than 2 years being ranked exactly at #250. If she gets 1-2 good tournaments in next couple of months, she can aim to play French open qualies. Only 10 points to defend from now till end April which is the cut off date. Will need to get 55 to 60 points to make it between 200-210 which will be good for qualies.
