At $54K(+H) Santiago Challenger, Chile

[R1] Sumit Nagal (IND,351) vs. Johannes Haerteis (GER,382)

Hope Sumit gets back to winning ways after making such a long trip to Chile where I am first time seeing any Indian player play.

[R1] Sumit Nagal (IND,351) l. Johannes Haerteis (GER,382) 4-6, 6-0, 3-6

Another loss but a little unlucky to lose after winning more games...

Sumit is playing in a challenger in Canada this week.

At $54K(+H) Drummondville Challenger, Canada

[R1] Sumit Nagal (IND,351) vs. Kevin King (USA,332)

Admirable the way Sumit is travelling far and further in search of opportunities to play challengers. Hope he starts getting wins soon.

Yes, good to see Sumit get a win after a long time and a confident one at that.

Next,

At $54K(+H) Drummondville Challenger, Canada

[R2] Sumit Nagal (IND,351) vs. (16) Tristan Lamasine (FRA,286)

That is a tough match for Sumit.

Excellent win in straight sets over Kevin King, who was ranked as high as 162 less than a year ago.
I don't see why Tristan Lamasine (who had a career-high of 181 four years ago) should be any tougher than his R1 match. I hope this is the start of another of Sumit's purple patches (as hinted at by his R1 scoreline).

Sumit lost tamely in straight sets.

At $54K(+H) Drummondville Challenger, Canada

[R2] Sumit Nagal (IND,351) l. (16) Tristan Lamasine (FRA,286) 26 36

Only 3 points for Sumit from this. Not much help in getting up the rankings. He needs to get 1-2 good points week soon. Else, his ranking will fall further and he will have come thru ITF tour which will be a long haul back in the new system.

Sumit decides to play in Europe on clay rather than got to Taiwan on faster hard courts. He is playing qualies in an Italian challenger.

At $54K(+H) Barletta Challenger, Italy

[Q1] (1) Sumit Nagal (IND,350) vs. (WC) Matteo Arnaldi (ITA,NR)

Arnaldi is current junior world no.44 and won a grade 1 title on clay last month. So, it won't be a cakewalk for Sumit.

Sumit qualifies for the main draw with a straight sets win.

At $54K(+H) Barletta Challenger, Italy

[Q1] (1) Sumit Nagal (IND,350) d. (WC) Matteo Arnaldi (ITA,NR) 63 75

Next,

[R1] (Q) Sumit Nagal (IND,350) vs. Peter Heller (GER,516,ITF-1)

Heller has risen to top ranking in ITF with the help of 6 futures titles last year but playing at challenger level this year , he has gone 1-6 ( he still made final of a $25K in Jan) while Sumit has been 3-5 this year playing only at challenger level.

Hope Sumit can win this and at least another round as he desperately needs points to stay afloat to make at least some of the challenger draws.

After today's match got feeling Sumit is regaining his touch ... ;)
As after losing the first set easily he made a strong comeback and won the next two sets losing a single game.

At $54K+H Barletta Challenger 2019, Italy

[R1] (Q) Sumit Nagal (IND,350) bt Peter Heller (GER,516,ITF-1) 16 61 60

[R2] (Q) Sumit Nagal (IND,350) vs (4) Filippo Baldi (ITA,151)

Yes, Sumit is back on his favorite surface, clay. So, hopefully he will have better results.

But, this result probably shows some of the good aspects of new ATP points system. Under the old system, Heller would have been ranked inside top 250 with his all the futures results. This result clearly shows that he would have overranked in that case.

The new system clearly discourages the players who are vultering lower level tournaments to keep a good ranking.

Sumit lost in straight set in the second round.

At $54K(+H) Barletta Challenger, Italy

[R2] (Q) Sumit Nagal (IND,350) l. (4) Filippo Baldi (ITA,151) 36 46

Still a decent week for Sumit after some time- winning 2 matches and putting up a decent fight against a player close to top 150.
