Re: Sumit Nagal thread
There are alternates who are ranked lower than Sumit who have made it to the qualifying draw at both of those challengers. So, there may be some other reason why Sumit did not make it at either places.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
^^^ They make the main draws along with the qualifying draw at the ATP challengers, nowadays. So, no. And no tennis federation outside of India would waste a wildcard on Sumit or any other foreign player for that matter. That kind of tomfoolery only happens in India.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
That means he didn't go to either challenger, right? Must have decided to continue training for one more week.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
If he (Sumit) has decided to continue training at the academy then it is bit too unusually long period of break during what is business end of the season.
It's been nearly 4 weeks since he last played a tournament and such long extended breaks normally are meant for off season activity, not when the season is in a full swing .
Maximum 1 week should be sufficient for training when staying away from valuable tournament play.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Since Sumit was moving from one continent to another and from one surface to another, I think 2 weeks break would have been ok. But, it will be a 4 week break if he returns to action for Barletta Challenger as scheduled this weekend. That is a bit more than normal during the season. Hope he has used that break well and he comes back strongly on his favorite surface. He needs 1 or 2 deep runs in challengers and then he does not have to got thru qualies.Rajiv wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 4:42 pm If he (Sumit) has decided to continue training at the academy then it is bit too unusually long period of break during what is business end of the season.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Exactly. Why would they care for a journeyman?Dinesh wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 3:16 pm ^^^ They make the main draws along with the qualifying draw at the ATP challengers, nowadays. So, no. Re: Sumit Nagal thread
So, finally Sumit is back on the circuit after 4 week break.
At Barletta Challenger 75, Italy (Clay)
[Q1] (12) Sumit Nagal (IND,374) vs. Gabriele Piraino (ITA,500)
Piraiano is a talented 19 year old who reached an M25 final last month. So, not a easy match for Sumit.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Sumit has the quality to beat opponents of this level. If he plays positively but patiently, he should be able to make the main draw…

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Sumit lost.
At Barletta Challenger 75, Italy (Clay)
[Q1] (12) Sumit Nagal (IND,374) l. Gabriele Piraino (ITA,500) 26 46
Watched the second set and Sumit was playing decent but clearly his forehand not firing as usual and the other guy was dictating play. Sumit still finding his feet on European clay it seems, being his first match on it for a while.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
So the long study leave he took didn't really work out and fails in the very first exam.
Don't know who really is advising him to take take such long breaks during playing time.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Sumit is 2 out from the Split Croatia challenger qualifying list, and 4 out from the Madrid challenger list as of now. He may not make it in Madrid, and I don't know if he plans to go to Croatia by tomorrow. He could have easily made it into the Sarasota qualies in Florida or the Leon qualies in Mexico but didn't enter either of them, maybe because he wants to stick with red clay in Europe
