Using a PR was always going to be his objective, which i noticed way back in December and wrote about it which you will find it in 3 post's above your post.

Yes, saw that, Rajeev. Good decision by Sumit. He has lot of points to defend in April, May, June this year. So, if he starts now he is in the risk of going down in the rankings and not making main draws of challengers and grand slam qualifying if he does not start with a bang after his injury. With PR he will have the cushion of using that to enter 9 tournaments. Hopefully, in April, May he will also make few challenger main draw with his regular ranking too. So, he will use his PR later when needed.

Indians have taken injuries lightly or maybe they didn't want to lose from their best playing days. Som ( early comeback for Olympics), Saketh ignored his injury for long and Harsh.

So it's good if the body heals.

Having seen some his postings on Instagram, he is unlikely to be able to play professional tennis for a couple of months anyway. Just being able to walk (without crutches) or even casually hitting balls does not make you ready to play at the highest levels. So, waiting for the 6 months to activate his PR makes logical sense for him.

Thanks for that update. If he is barely able to walk, then it might take longer. He should be the best judge of it.

Ok, Sumit has now entered the Sarasota Challenger on green clay in US in the week of April 11 where he is 4 out from main draw with his regular ranking. His PR kicks on from this week but it will be good if he makes few challenger main draws without having to use them. These 3 weeks in US on green clay before he starts losing points in April and May.

Btw, Prajnesh just about made the main draw in this Sarasota Challenger.

Sumit confirmed today that his recovery is going well and that he looks forward to competing in Sarasota on April 11th. Good luck!

Good news. Hope he becomes the first Indian in recent times to handle his/her injury well.

Haven’t heard much about Sumit recently. Since making his comeback in the spring, he has played anywhere for quite a while. Did he re-injure himself?

Since he didn't enter Wimbledon, I'm guessing he's not fit to play. His latest Insta post shows him smiling in Prague but does not appear to be there to play tennis.

Sumit has entered the Luedenscheid Challenger as a qualifier which is starting next week.
Hasn't used his PR here and is one spot away from making the qualies draw which he is surely to make it if he is seriously considering to play this tournament.

And then subsequently for the next two weeks has entered Challengers at Braunschweig,Salzburg,Lasi, Amersfoort,Verona, and here too has entered all without his PR and will be trying the qualies route but it all remains to be seen if he sticks to this schedule and also makes it in without PR ranking.

I watched his match in Heilbronn challenger in early May and he was cruising winning the first set and then got injured and could barely move and retired. I though it was recurrence of earlier injury, although not sure. After that he only played in FO qualies with his PR and it seems went back to India. But, now as per his insta posts he is back in Europe. So, he probably is ready to play this weekend in challenger qualifiers in Germany.

Yes, just hoping he is healthy to play. He is still relatively young, so he can climb the rankings again if he is healthy.

Sumit started with a hard fought win.

At Luedenscheid Challenger 80, Germany (Clay)

[Q1] (9) Sumit Nagal (IND,466) d. Max Wiskandt (GER,1990) 76(1) 76(8)

Next one will be a tougher one.

[Q2] (9) Sumit Nagal (IND,466) vs. (6) Georgii Kravchenko (UKR,415)
