Lost the second set on tie break. Pretty close this one. Miomir is showing his class now although Sumit is doing well to stay with him.

Got blown away in the third set 1-6

[R1] Sumit Nagal (IND, 130) l. Miomir Kecmanovic (SRB, 39) 64 67(4) 16

Sumit did really well until the second set tiebreaker. But then his tank ran out of fuel, it seems...

Unforunate Sumit couldn't sustain his form in the decider, would have been a monster upset had he been able to pull through.

Not sure what happened in the 3rd set, since Sumit is quite fit (and so unlikely to be simply lack of physical fitness although could be mental fitness).

For the first 2 sets, he can take a lot of confidence from this loss that he can play with the top 50 quality players against whom he has lost some matches relatively easily. Of course, he has won sets against 2 GS winners in Federer and Wawrinka, so he isn't far from getting his game ready for the top 100.

I suspect that players in the top 100 are figuring out how to play Sumit and hence are able to handle him better as the match progresses. Sumit also needs to learn to make such in-match adjustments. Of course, his serve needs work as well.

For next week's 2 ATP tournaments in Melbourne, they have expanded the main draw to 56 and cancelled the qualifying. So, Sumit has made it thru to the main draw of Melbourne 2 tournament. Hope Sumit gets a good practice ahead of Australian open.

Ankita likely to make the main draw of one of the 3 WTA tournaments too and our doubles specialists Rohan and Divij should play in one of the ATP tournaments too. So, we will open a thread for that once draws are announced or discuss it in the Australian open thread itself.

After a disappointing stint in Australia where Sumit lost to the same player twice in 2 weeks, he will be heading to South America to play the Cordoba ATP 250 in Argentina. Currently, he is 11th in the Q list.

After Cordoba, there is Buenos Aires and Santiago 250 tournaments, so I assume we will get to see him play in his favorite surface for these 3 weeks!

As of now he is also in the Chile challenger entry list next week. So, that is 4 weeks on clay in South America before probably Miami on hard courts for Sumit.

Strange! He also took his name away from the Cordoba ATP qualifying list, he’s still 5 spots away from the main draw, so unless 5 more players withdraw or if he was awarded a WC to the main draw, he’s out for the 2nd straight week!

As per his OG story, he reached Buenos Aires yesterday evening. How far is Cordoba from Buenos Aires? Don't know why he withdrew when he already reached Argentina.
