Basically they both played quite well in the final few games, but Sumit was more in control of his nerves, perhaps. Sometimes, winning is a habit. Nice tennis in the end, though it was rather meh in the first couple of sets.... This brings up,

[QF] (7) Sumit Nagal (IND,161) vs (4) Thiago Moteiro (BRA,108)
I think Sumit's QF opponent is still TBD. It will be winner of Cerundolo (#266) and Varillas (#344). He got lucky that Varillas took out a red hot top 100 player, Delian in the 2nd round. Monteiro lurks in the SF, if they both win their QFs.

Yes, Arjun. I read the live draw wrongly. It will be 13th seed Cerundolo or Varillas, so Sumit will again be the favorite on ranking. But Varillas had upset the 2nd seed in straight sets earlier...

Yes, another fighting win for Sumit ... Next, he is facing a local youngster, Francisco Cerundolo.

At $54K+H Buenos Aires Challenger 2019, Argentina

After his first round win, Sumit had posted that this was one of the slowest clay court that he has played on. He does seem to be having difficulty adjusting to it and it has not been smooth sailing for him. If one looks at the draw, in a draw of 48 here, there are 43 South Americans, 4 Europeans and 1 Indian. No other Asian or American or Australian other than Sumit. Show how difficult path is he is trading on.

Local player in next round won't be easy.

I am not surprised that he said that. Even I could feel it. Not just that it is slow, but it also has some uneven bounce. Sumit doesn't seem to like the court, but has won two tough matches there. So maybe he would've preferred the same court 8, but he is playing on the center court tomorrow...

In the QF, 6 are Argentinians. Only Monteiro (BRA) and Sumit are not from the home country. Hopefully, they can prevent an all Argentinian semifinals.

Sumit wins the first set 63 against an Argentine who is looking to be hitting big. But, Sumit is playing much better than the first 2 rounds. He probably likes this court better than the earlier one where he played both his matches.

Sumit was a break and 0-3 down in the second set but has now got it back to 3-3.

But, he gets broken while serving at 4-5. Started with a double fault and then the Argentine hit some amazing winners on next 2 points. Sumit saved 1 set point but missed an easy volley at the net on next.

Nice win by Sumit! Takes him to a live ranking of #150 although there are still a couple of players that can still overhaul him this week. In any case, he will be at a new career high this week.

A title should take him to around #135.

Sumit is maintaining his consistency at clay Challengers. Ninth semifinal (consecutively, I think), including a final in the previous one.

Have we ever had an Indian reach the semis of a South American clay challenger?

Also Sumit is India #1 now as per the elo ratings where he is in the top120.

Another good win on these slow courts by Sumit against a local player ... In the semis, he is facing a top Brazilian player, Thiago Monteiro.
I would say, an expected loss against the top-seed Argentine pair for Sumit and his partner Coria in the doubles.

At $54K+H Buenos Aires Challenger 2019, Argentina

[SF] (7) Sumit Nagal (IND,161) vs (4) Thiago Monteiro (BRA,108)

Doubles
[QF] Federico Coria (ARG)/ Sumit Nagal (IND) l (1) Guido Andreozzi (ARG)/ Andres Molteni (ARG) 26 36

No one even tries. Leander tried, maybe it was in 1996 or 97.... skipping Wimbledon. He had horrible results. He won a challenger in Brazil but that was hard court.
