Ahh.. the double whammy for the doubles...

first you decide that a doubles win is only worth 2/3rd the points of a singles win
then you combine singles, doubles rankings and declare that doubles is only worth 1/4th of the overall performance weightage!

But the 1/6th factor does make sense, if you look at the Aus open Singles prize money Vs doubles prize money.
Basically, money = importance = ranking points (all approximately) :)

Just saw a picture of Rutuja with Leander at AO in Facebook. And my god, she is taller than Lee(who I think is 5'10'')! That way by the age of 18, we can expect her to reach 6ft or above!

Rutuja's palyer info page on the Lakshya Sports site lists her height as 5' 9", most probably from last year....

I like her remark on mental strength. Shows her maturity. In today's tennis, players with no major weapon often make it big due to their will power and mental strength. Way to go Rutuja!

I am sure I saw 5'11'' in the AO or ITF site. Even with 5'9'' she can have a big serve. Thats why I wanted her to play with Sania at the Olympics.

Agreed.

Although, trials are going to be held for the spot, Rutuja should be the first choice player to partner Sania at the London Olympics considering the fact that she was part of the Fed Cup team and played many pressure games and came out with flying colors more often than not.

Rutuja is in the entry list of the Grade 4 Juniors tournament in Zimbabwe. It's a pity that there are no ITF tournaments in the PRO circuit in India/Asia and there are no Junior tournaments too except China.

She will also be playing the second week there.

Congratulations to Rutuja for winning a double crown here. It was a relatively easy field, but winning both titles is a worthy achievement.

Rutuja is too good to be playing at these grade 4 level tournaments. But, then there are no tournaments to play at this time in & around in India at higher levels either in juniors or seniors.

Wonderful to see Rutuja beat a Korean pro ranked 409 in the main draw of the $125K WTA tournament in Pune. At 16, Rutuja remains the next big hope of women's tennis in India. She has progressed by fits and starts, but this clearly marks a big step up toward the top-500 in pro tennis, achieved while still only 16.

Rutuja is now ranked 550 in the WTA singles rankings & is among top 10 ranked players in the world who are born in 1996 or thereafter.

So, if she continues the same improvement, there is potential for top 100 in 2-3 years time.
