Rutuja needs to start winning against higher ranked players. Looks like she is back to her pre-Covid levels which is good.

At ITF W60, San Bartolome de Tirajana, ESP (Clay)

[R2] Rutuja Bhosale (IND,434) l. (5) Nadia Podoroska (ARG,190) 06 67(2)

Podorska was ranked in top 40 till last year and was a French open 2020 semi finalist. So, no surprise there.

Yes, this one is along the expected lines. The second set score is actually very encouraging. Sometimes, even losses build your confidence.

Rutuja posted on her social media that she applied for the Australian visa 2 weeks ago and still haven’t gotten it. Hope she gets some last minute help and manages to arrive there on time. She could request for a late start (Tuesday), if she can pull some strings. What a pity!

Rutuja is in the main draw of the W25 in Yokohama, Japan, this week. Playing a Q/LL to be determined. If she wins, she may run into the top seed Han-Na Lee. She is playing doubles with Erika Sema (JPN) and they are the top seeds.

And add Rutuja to the list of players who are totally not in form. She lost to an 18 year old qualifier at the W25 in Yokohama, Japan

[R1] Rutuja Bhosale (IND,424) l. (Q) Aoi Ito (JPN,725), 26 64 06

No end to our despair.

I think it just goes on to show that our players are grossly over ranked, generally due to a collection of cheap points (many of them at home in very weak fields—case in point is that Kirrtanes and Bhambris are still playing and winning with ease, ahem!). That’s why I’m never expecting much from our current crop and consequently not suffer as much. RamK is the only one that makes me feel sad more than anything.

Rutuja continues in Nottingham and since she is the only Indian in main draw this week, we will discuss in her thread.

At W25 Nottingham, Great Britain (Hard)

[R1] (8) Rutuja Bhosale (IND,403) vs. Jia-Jing Lu (CHN,425)

Rutuja is 1-2 in head to head against Lu but those 2 losses came in 2018 and 2016 when Lu was inside or just outside top 200. Lu is 33 now and hope Rutuja can prevail this time.

At W25 Nottingham, Great Britain (Hard)

[R1] (8) Rutuja Bhosale (IND,403) 6-4 6-4 Jia-Jing Lu (CHN,425)
[R1] (8) Rutuja Bhosale (IND,403) vs (Q) Danielle Daley (GBR,1031)

Rutuja/Arianne Hartono are the top seeds in doubles and won their R1 6-2 7-5 against a Aussie pair. Keep going, Rutuja! :goodluck:

Next,

Svendsen beat the player who has upset top seed in the first round.

I woke up to see if there was a stream for Rutuja’s match and there wasn’t and saw her trailing a set and a break down (5-7 3-4) and thought that she would lose but she came back from the brink of it. Won 5-7 6-4 6-2 :bounce:

Is April a lucky month for Indian players in singles? :D

^^^ Not sure of April, but this week has been good for sure. Four semifinals in singles - Sumit, Rutuja, Digvijay, and Krisha in three continents and a piddly island.

[QF] (8) Rutuja Bhosale (IND,403) d. Johanne Christine Svendsen (DEN,431), 57 64 62
so
[SF] (8) Rutuja Bhosale (IND,403) vs (3) Arina Rodionova (AUS,293)

Old stalwart Rodionova has been in ominous form this week, so Rutuja has a tough match coming up.
