It seems Rutuja has been training at 4 slam acadamy in Spain in last few days & she will be finally playing her first tournament of this year after more than 6 months. ( not counting Fed cup). She has also played only 2 junior tournaments this year . So, hard to understand this schedule unless she was injured.

At least she is back this week.

At $10K ITF Women Getxo, Spain (clay)

Singles

[R1] (8) Rutuja Bhosale (IND,664) vs. Anna Smolina ( RUS,806)

Doubles

[R1] Rutuja Bhosale (IND) / Klartje Libbens (BEL) vs. Jacqueline Cabaz Avad (ESP) / Cornelia Lister (ESP)

Rutuja lost tamely in singles second round & also lost in doubles first round.

She is also in the entry list for next week for the tournament which is on hard courts. So, hopefully we will see better results.

Interesting that young Rutuja is taking this tough route when easier points were available at the Delhi Futures.

[R1] (4) Rutuja BHOSALE (IND,664) l. (Q) Aina SCHAFFNER RIERA (ESP,NR) 61 26 67(6)

I followed live scores for a while . Rutuja was leading 52 & then had at least 3-4 matchpoints at various times in third set including the tie break only to lose it in the end. Heartbreaking loss for her.

Everyone seems to be losing this week.

It seems Indians are having a great week in doubles at all levels. After getting knocked out in first round, Rutuja went on to win her first ITF title in doubles.

[QF] Rutuja BHOSALE (IND) / Camilla ROSATELLO (ITA) [4] 6-2 6-2 Silvia FUENTES PEREZ (ESP) / Arianna PAULES ALDREY (ESP)
[SF] Rutuja BHOSALE (IND) / Camilla ROSATELLO (ITA) [4] 7-5 6-2 Olga PARRES AZCOITIA (ESP) / Jessika PONCHET (FRA) [2]
[F] Rutuja BHOSALE (IND) / Camilla ROSATELLO (ITA) [4] 6-4 6-0 Lucia CERVERA-VAZQUEZ (ESP) / Carolina PRATS-MILLAN (ESP) [1]

Good job in beating top 2 seeds in the SF & finals.

It seems Rutuja is joining US college tennis circuit bases on this article -

Texas A&M Freshman Defeats 12th-Ranked Player in the World
Rutuja Bhosale, who will be a freshman on the Texas A&M women's tennis team this fall, has advanced to the quarterfinals at the Asian Youth Games after defeating Ching-Win Hsu, who is currently No. 12 in the ITF junior world rankings.
Considering that she is only 17, I hope she benefits from 2-3 years pro stint & still has ambition to come back & succeed in pros.

Good decision. Going to college in Texas for 4 years should be great preparation for the resumption of her pro career when she turns 21 (or earlier, if she so chooses).

How could she do this to somebody who was always rooting for her? An Aggie? Really?? .... That's it. I am done with rooting for her. How could you do this to me, Rutuja?

Jay

PS: Ajay, I don't have her contact, but I am pretty sure that Jaydeep has (or can find a way to reach her). But we need to get top Jaydeep first....

Jay,
You were only rooting for her. Look here, my own son, whom I raised for 18 years in College Station, who should be bleeding Maroon, is ditching us for orange color :( . I'm about to leave to Austin to drop him there as he starts his new life.

You are a sensible Aggie, sir. I always knew that if I lived long enough, I would find one someday! Jay

PS: Congratulations to your son. I am sure he will enjoy it there. Just keep him away from the 6th street though.
