A bit more info on Jeevan.

He had a pretty good junior career reaching a career high junior ranking of 9. He reached the later rounds of quite a few grade 2/ grade 1 junior events but his best performance was in June 2006 when he won the Grade 1 junior title at Offenbench, Germany on clay . This is one of the very few instances when an Indian player has won a grade 1 junior title on clay abroad. ( perhaps the only one ). In the final of that tournament he beat Jurgen Zopp of Estonia who is now ranked 150 on mens tour.

This shows the talent that Jeevan posseses. He joined university of Washington in 2006 for a 4 year stint. He played no. 1 for them for almost 3 of the 4 years. But, he did not have as good a college tennis career as expected based on his junior records. Therefore, we stopped having too much hope from him on mens tour. However he has stepped up & made us take notice with this title just when we were ready to write him off .

Go Jeevan.

Junior Circuits Abroad for Indian Kids thread - June 2006
Gosh, was it 5.5 years back? We had to wait that long to celebrate jeevan again? ... But I am glad that he is still standing. Come on Jeevs, keep it up! Jay

Thanks Sameer for starting this thread ... This week he was looking in zone and focused ... He take full advantage of his opponents weakness ... He has very steady game, he can hit ball both side of courts ... He avoid playing backhand and always try to take ball on his forehand side ... Having good serve with punch in it, which helped him here whenever he was under pressure ... Looking fit but adding some muscles will help him.

Also what I noticed he and Saketh were bringing back their concentration back in the game very quickly after any disputed call by linesman or chair umpires ... Other players (including our top players like Yuki, Karan, Vijayant etc) were throwing racquets, hitting ball outside the court or keep talking ... May be Jeevan and Saketh learn this mind-controlling trick through college tennis, just my hunch.

200% Agreed.Add Rohan Gajjar , Karunuday Singh to the list too, they got upset with such bad calls and Rohan used to murmur a lot (till the end of the match )which actually played a major role in his quarters loss to James Marsalek in Chennai.I think they should just throw from the game and keep on concentrating then.

BTW,those who watched the Chennai ITF finals LIVE ,if u remember the chair umpire,he is the one who made such pathetic umpiring for the unforgettable James-Gajjar match.

Congratulations to Jeevan for a stirring comeback (especially in this forum), going from near-obscurity (and talk of a loss of motivation) after his college years to back where he belongs (near the top of the next rung of Indian tennis talent behind Somdev).

Jeevan is at a career high of 661 this week. He should improve a few more spots in the rankings after this week. This will really help him to get into main draws of most of the futures next year & he has nothing to defend till September next year. So, the ranking can only go up.

Fantastic month of tennis from Jeevan. Congratulations to him for making such a stirring comeback to the pro circuit after a relatively quiet college career in the US (and, it appears, also partly in Germany).

Intrestingly in the 2 titles he won he lost only 1 set to Ranjit in 12 matches. That was quite a dominant show by Jeevan. I did not see Shriram play in the final but as per reports, he has bis shots as has Karunuday whom he beat in the SF ( SImilar was the case with Vishnu in Pune final). That shows Jeevan's skills where he is able to dominate players who have bigger shot making ability.

Jeevan says he will be training with Mahesh Bhupathi ( apparently alongwith Rohan Boapnna & Sania Mirza) at Mumbai after a few days. It is good that our senior players are taking youngsters ( Somdev with Sanam & Mahesh/ Rohan with Jeevan) with them for off seaon training. That should help the youngsters quite a lot,

Good to know that Jeevan and Sriram Balaji completed 8 days training camp in Mumbai with Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza under Scott Davidoff.

Today I saw him play for the very first time. It took me back to the time when Suresh Raina first came to the INdian cricket team. Jeevan too has similar raw talent. I think we need to work on him. He should get the right sponsors. He has everything in him to play top class tennis. He was playing pretty well. Balaji played some ordinary shots in the 2nd set, but that didn't put Jeevan down, he kept trying his best to bring the team back to the game.

Inexperience of both cost them the game, but I was mighty impressed by the approach of Jeevan. That four-hand was top sight in the final game.
