Last year in November they were finalists at Toyota and Kobe challengers, so mostly that was the reason Jeevan had decided to play with Rungkat.

That is totally irrelevant. Harsh Mankad had an infinitely better singles record than Eric Butorac (they both played tennis for Minnesota colleges, Harsh was ranked #1 for singles in NCAA Div I while Butorac played NCAA Div III and didn't dominate). Harsh reached 222 in ATP singles, Butorac never made it to 1000 in singles. But he was Harsh's doubles partner when they were both at an early stage of their careers (British Futures) and Butorac quickly became a doubles specialist, and spent many years as a TOP-50 doubles player. Harsh made a late switch to doubles and peaked at a doubles ranking of 102 (his last tournament was as Butorac's partner again...).

The story illustrates (I hope ) that doubles skills are very different from singles skills. Serve and volley are key in doubles, and Jeevan/Harsh are slightly disadvantaged because they have reliable but not killer serves. DiPu have conventional doubles skills, plus (like Butorac) the advantage of having committed to doubles early. Jeevan is also benefitting now from membership in Harsh's Tenicity program, but that cannot overcome all the other handicaps in Jeevan's doubles potential.

Jeevan & Rungkat won the first set 7-6(6). They got an early break and were serving at 4-2 at one point in time. Their unheralded opponents came back strongly by getting their break back and fought on even terms up until 6-6 in the TB. JN & CR managed the next 2 points to get the first set into their kitty.

<edit> you have to be kidding me! Aaaaaaarrrgggh! 9-11 after having 4 match points at 9-5. JN threw in a DF as well at 9-7. Tennis is a cruel game.

Just outright ridiculous. From being in an authoritative position of 9-5 (4 match points), they royally screwed up to lose the next 6 points and the title. I am having hard time digesting it.Pretty pathetic loss.
