Re: Saketh Myneni Thread
If he wins the tournament, presumably he will stay around where he is (#154), since he is the defending champion. The field this year is incredibly strong, with the defending champion unseeded.

Re: Saketh Myneni Thread
Yes, last year with a ranking of 168, Saketh was seeded 4th while this year with a ranking of 154 he is not even seeded. It shows the depth of the field this time. It will be tough for Saketh to repeat his effort of last year.

Re: Saketh Myneni Thread
Saki's injury appears quite serious as he has pulled out of the Ningbo Challenger , Even doubt if he will play the Poona Challenger.

Re: Saketh Myneni Thread
As per reports, he pulled out due to right shoulder injury. I think this injury has affected him thru this year and many times he has tried to play thru it. Also spoiled his grass season just when we were expecting him to do well there.
Lets hope he can recover in time for Pune challenger to recover at least some fall in the ranking. He is losing 82 points this week and 29 next week which will take his ranking down to around 200. Nothing more falling off for rest of the year.

Re: Saketh Myneni Thread
Happy birthday, Saki.
He has not entered any of the challengers in the 2 weeks after Pune and there are only 2 more weeks of challenger play left after that. Still in Pune challenger entry list but I guess he may have ended his season.

Re: Saketh Myneni Thread
After Pune there are 4 weeks of Challengers left including a string of 3-4 challengers in Italy where Ram has entered .
But I feel Saki should take complete rest as playing on and off is unnecessary aggravating up and delaying the recovery , Maybe he should start fresh with Chennai ,Of course all depends on how good or bad the injury is.

Re: Saketh Myneni Thread
Saketh has fallen outside top 200 being ranked 203 in this week's singles ranking. Hopefully, he will win at least a couple of matches this week at Pune to end the year in top 200 as this looks likely to be his last week on tour this year.

Re: Saketh Myneni Thread
Saketh did win a couple of matches in Pune challenger and is now ranked 193. He has ended his season now. He may go down a few spots as others keep on playing in challengers but should finish the year in top 200. It has been mixed sort of year for him where he made his first grand slam main draw at US open and reached his career high ranking of 137 after that. But, due to injury he played only 2 tournaments post US open due to which he fell back.
Hope he comes back fully fit at Chennai.

In the last couple of weeks, Saki won a couple of invitational tournaments ... He won the All India Super 8 Challenge in Mumbai and then won the Hong Kong Open Tennis Championships (doubles) with Divij.

Good to know that he is getting back into the groove. Do you have a list of opponents that he beat, Jaydeep?jaydeep wrote:In the last couple of weeks, Saki won a couple of invitational tournaments ... Re: Saketh Myneni Thread
Over the past decade or so, many an Indian player tried in vain to play in the most obscure of locations across the globe trying to hide their pursuit of points from Jaydeep and Sandeep. Rumor has it that their best effort of playing in pitch black night with black attire and black balls has failed so miserably, that by the time they turned the lights on, Jaydeep had already posted an update of scores along with details of injuries each player has incurred. However, what pains this famous SI duo the most is, their utter failure in finding out the details of a prodigal 15 year old Indian boy's maiden tournament win in the US, way back in 1986. It is hightime Sandeep & Jaydeep stopped diggging any deeper and humbly admit to their failure.indiansportsfan wrote:Great stuff Jaydeep for digging this up How did you get this information?

@Vermaji
Yes Saki was in HK on a whirlwind tour of couple of days for the Invitational Doubles at the Clearwater Bay Club and amongst the things discussed was the all important question of fitness and in his own words "Trying to get stronger and on fitness and keep competing longer"
