Over the past decade or so, many an Indian player tried in vain to play in the most obscure of locations across the globe trying to hide their pursuit of points from Jaydeep and Sandeep. Rumor has it that their best effort of playing in pitch black night with black attire and black balls has failed so miserably, that by the time they turned the lights on, Jaydeep had already posted an update of scores along with details of injuries each player has incurred. However, what pains this famous SI duo the most is, their utter failure in finding out the details of a prodigal 15-year-old Indian boy's maiden tournament win in the US, way back in 1986. It is high time Sandeep & Jaydeep stopped digging any deeper and humbly admit to their failure.

Varma, as usual, hilarious piece ... Now true trailblazers of SI r 'evergreen' Sameer, 'new kid on block' Vatsal, Prashanth and others ( the list is long). So credit goes to them. These days we get all information through Twitter, FB pages, and websites ... Credit goes to all of them.

Vishnu and Balaji seemed to have started blazingly well in Hong Kong, but faded by the end. Good to see Saketh and Divij play there and win the title.

Prashant, this was the same question I asked him last month and he replied will need to wait for some time.
So basically there is no fixed timetable as of now and just have to wait for a full recovery ,fingers crossed.

This injury has been so cruel to him and appeared out of the blue last year in China, when he was all set to take the Challenger title and all of a sudden woke up in the morning and tragedy struck from which he still hasen't recovered, having had few unsuccessful comebacks since then.

Until that dreadful injury happened he had struck such a beautiful purple patch and looked well set and perfectly
poised to crack top 100 which was the goal he had set for himself to attain by mid 2016 when we talked about this at the 2016 AO.

Fate has rather been too cruel with Saki.

Rajeev, I guess that injury may be different. After that he did come back and qualified for US open and almost pulled off a top 50 win in first round.

Anyhow, I think he made a mistake in playing Chennai open and Australian open qualies with injury it seems. Due to that he will be eligible for injury protected ranking only in late July and his IPR will be only around 270, I guess. That will be not be enough to get into grand slam qualies draws. If he had not played at all this year, his IPR would have been 170 which would have enabled him to play grand slam qualies for 9 months after he comes back.

News article
Saketh, the last Indian to play in the main draw of a Major, called it unfortunate. “I think Bhambri is through all his injuries and he is on the border to make the qualies. So it’s very unfortunate. I think both of their (Bhambri and Ramkumar) rankings improved once the cut-offs were done.” On his injuries, Saketh expressed hope that he could return in one month.

That is good news. Just saw Saketh's name in the alternates list at Astana challenger in Kazakhstan starting July 17. I think he can start using his injury protected ranking with that week. However, he has entered in Astana with his current rankings. So, he may not be still sure if he will be ready by then.

If he used his injury protected ranking and then he withdrew because the injury had not healed, logically, he should have his injury leave lengthened and none of his injury protected ranking chits used. Is that not the case?

He did not play with injury protected ranking earlier. But, in any case he last played in the week of January 9. So, he would be eligible to use his protected ranking from the Astana challenger week ( starting July 16) and can use all 9 of them. I was commenting earlier that he should not have played Chennai open & Australian open ( with his regular ranking) where he seemed unfit. His injury protected ranking would have been higher in that case as average ranking of first 3 months during injury is considered as IPR.

I think expected to be around 270, roughly his average ranking in first 3 months since injury i.e Jan-April. Enough to get into most of the challengers but not enough for grand slam qualies. If only he had not played in Chennai and AO ( while being apparently injured), it would have been around 170. His ranking fell sharply in Feb-March which falls within first 3 months of his injury period.

Ok, Saketh entered $125K Chengdu Challenger in China with his protected ranking of 267. There is a $150K challenger the week after too in Jian. Pretty weak entry list for the such a big challenger as most of the players would have moved to US ahead of US open. Apart from Saketh, Balaji and Sumit have too made the cut for main draw. Sasi and Vishnu are in alternates. Not sure what is Prajnesh upto ? He went to China to play futures and is now not in the entry list for this big challenger ( and is neither playing in US or Europe in that week  ).
