Re: Karunuday Singh thread
With flurry of activity in Calcutta , KU loss was missed out and he went down to the 6th seed Chinese 6-3,6-4, was a break up in the second set , but couldn't consolidate and in turn got broken twice and lost the match , quite an expensive unproductive trek.

Re: Karunuday Singh thread
True, he tried something different but could not succeed. He is not in the same form as he was last year before he got injured.
He at least got a win in doubles -
[R1] Karunuday Singh(IND)/Andre Whittington(AUS) d. Liang-Chi Huang(TPE)/Yuichi Sugita(JPN) 76(11) 26 10-8

Re: Karunuday Singh thread
He has earned $820 (Rs 50k) for his efforts which I feel is good enough. Tomorrows Delhi to Kyoto airfare ~44k. Plus this Challenger is with hospitality. Hence savings on stay cost.
His personal expense would be hardly 15-20k for 3-4 day stay.

Re: Karunuday Singh thread
Not bad. He tried something different in quest to play a main draw challenger match and it was unfortunate that he got Chinese no. 1 in his opening match. Eventually, all these hard miles will pay off at some point of time (as it did for Purav in ATP doubles recently).

Re: Karunuday Singh thread
Omkara, I would guess the actual costs are a lot higher and KU needs to make about $2k just to break even.
Read this article from James McGee which is very enlightening on how expensive and hard the tour is for these guys ranked around KU

Re: Karunuday Singh thread
Karunuday Singh won his third futures title and first of the year when he won the $10K futures in Mandya, Karnataka today.
These are his results this week -
[R1] Karunuday SINGH (IND) [3] 6-3 6-4 Nitin Kumar SINHA (IND
[R2] Karunuday SINGH (IND) [3] 6-1 6-3 S D Prajwal DEV (IND)
[QF] Karunuday SINGH (IND) [3] 7-6(3) 6-4 Vinayak Sharma KAZA (IND) [7]
[SF] Karunuday SINGH (IND) [3] 6-7(6) 6-2 7-6(5) Ronit Singh BISHT (IND
[F] Karunuday SINGH (IND) [3] 3-0 Retired Antoine ESCOFFIER (FRA) [1]
The field was not great and KU got lucky in the final and just escaped defeat at the hands of young Ronit Bisht in the SF. But, 18 points from this title will be handy for him. From his current ranking of 630, he will move up to around 530 now. A few more of such runs needed to take him inside top 400/ 350 which will get him into challenger entry range. He has no points to defend till almost end November.

And he will get a week's rest as he is not playing doubles. I'm sure that he will play well next week.

Sameer, KU's singles win was in R2 and his next match is the QF. Please correct your post.
