Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
It is good to see the spirited defense of Ram's backhand despite not watching the match. Proper fanboyism at view.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
I only got to watch the last 4 games on and off. This guy is playing like he is possessed! From the last time I saw him play (in a live stream somewhere, of course), he has improved amazingly. The results show that, obviously! His forehand is a reliable weapon. For most part, he still slices his backhand (my sample is way too smaller for this conclusion, though), but there was one backhand down the line I saw which left me speechless and shocked. It packed a big punch, and it was treat to watch him give it a big whack! Why can't he do that more (in case he isn't)? But the best part was his foot speed. This guy was running all over the place!!! What an unimaginable transformation in just a few months! Those never-ending stints on Spanish-clay that we always accused him for, do you guys think they did the trick in laying a solid foundation for his all-round game now? I would love to see some analysis from our in-house Tennis pundits.
Tomorrow's match will be a good measure of his current game. For, Santillan is someone who is capable of going toe to toe with RamK. It would be lovely to see our guy lift the trophy. It's about time he treated himself to a well deserved prize!
Go, RamK!

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
The most impressive thing from Ram in this match was the tactical change that he made mid-match. Until that point, Paul was able to read his serve well and dominate the baseline rallies by constantly playing Ram to his backhand. The change to the kick serve and taking the pace off the sliced backhands changed the matchup completely.
Ram's fitness in the third set and retrieving ability was also clearly superior.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
The India #1 is on the most impressive run of his career, leaping to new highs of achievement. The final pits two of the most exciting young talents in pro tennis today. All the best to RamK!
I still would wish to see him take next week off rather than rush in to play the Newport qualifiers. There's little doubt about the guy's amazing fitness and endurance, but there's no point tempting fate with 13 or more consecutive weeks of pro tournament play. Almost nobody else in the world does it!!

RamK lost to Santilan in a third set tie break in a Taipei challenger in April. Hope he works out a strategy to reverse that result tomorrow.

It's 1 all head to head and even the last match Ram should have won but messed it up and had a break to serve out the match

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Stupid scheduling to have the doubles finals first torpedoes any chances of me being able to watch.

BTW Santillan has moved back to representing Australia - defected to Japan after issues with Tennis Australia in 2015 but is back under Aussie colours now.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
of course the organizers want to end the tournament on a high note. if they schedule doubles final after singles, very few will stick around to watch.

QD for Newport - not as easy as the one in Antalya though the MD is a lot worse (weakest in the main tour).

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
RamK's serve needs to be consistent and strong for him to win the big matches. A bit worrying that he was broken, although wonderful to see him break back immediately.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
RamK saves at least 3-4 breakpoints at 5-6 and takes it to tie break.
And he loses the tie break 1-7. I think unnecessarily rushing to the net on every point.
