Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Looks like RamK missed entering the main draw entry list of next week's Casis challenger. He would have made it in. He has entered qualies though and will likely be top seed in qualies.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Couldn't make the MD at Cassis, because he missed the entry deadline for the MD, and what was left was only the quali draw entries , so was left with no other option but to play the qualies.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
I went back and watched the ending portion of his 64 64 Cassis Challenger Q1 win over Petros Tsitsipas today at the ATP site (here), and again saw a really good topspin backhand CC to get the Ad-out BP at 4-4 in the second set. What happened was that he got pulled wide right on a good FH from Petros that he managed to send back. Then he had to run hard to the left and didn't get time to over-run it and jam himself , so he was in the right spot for the backhand. Out came the screaming ball and he screamed too, like I was saying. Haha.sameerph wrote: ↑Fri Sep 03, 2021 5:03 amYou are right. I am also not a tennis expert. But, few years back during the Chennai Open, one of the commentators ( one of the former player, do not remember whom) remarked that RamK plays his backhand while he is on front foot and not from a back foot as almost everyone else does. So, makes it difficult for him to hit a topspin backhand. I wonder why this deficiency during all those years he spent in Spain.jayakris wrote: ↑Thu Sep 02, 2021 3:51 pmI think it is also a matter of mechanics. Footwork, maybe. He can hit the topspin backhand, but it is probably unreliable because he is not in proper position. I am not an expert, but my feeling is that his footwork is set for slicing (I think you move closer to the line of the ball?) and he can't make the top-spin shot effective from there. But occasionally he happens to be at the right distance and the BH topspin comes out screaming (and he screams too ). Actually the passing shot at that break-point surprised me. He was a bit jammed even there, but he still got it to come back across to the right place at high velocity.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Ram makes it to the MD and faces former top 10 player Ernest Gulbis, in the opener,Although the Latvian has fallen down from his halcyon days, his vast experience could prove to be an obstacle as 2 weeks ago reached the 3rd quali round of the USO, beating Ram's Wimbledon conqueror Polmans, then Horansky, before losing to Quinton Halys in the FQR.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Yes, excellent win for RamK.
At Biel Challenger, Switzerland ( indoor hard),
[R1] Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,192) d. (4) Thomas Machach (CZE, 138) 62 63.
Machac is a 20 year old talent who qualified for main draw of Australian Open this year.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Ramkumar and Thomas were supposed to play together in doubles but the draw now says they withdrew. Wonder what happened!

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Huh, I wonder if Ram mouthed off his opponent again? Sorry, I will not spread wild rumours. Also, something is wrong in the score above. Both cannot be #138. I think Ram is lower ranked.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Some idiots read this forum and then could potentially not understand our jokes and write an article in Indian newspapers. There are cases where I almost have a strong suspicion that that may have happened. If you are such an idiot, please don't be.
We are just joking that maybe he mouthed off his opponent.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Very good win for Ramkumar over a youngster who made R2 of the Australian Open this year, and took a set off Berretini. Of course, RamK's game should be especially well suited to indoor hard-courts.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Next up for Ramkumar is 29 year old Mats Moraing (GER, 175; CH 148). I think Ramkumar should certainly have the edge in that R2 match, which will probably be tomorrow.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Moraing has a challenger title and a challenger final in last 2 weeks and made Q3 of US Open week before that. So, he appears to be in the form of life.
Hope he is tired now after so many matches in last 3 weeks.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Another impressive one sided win for RamK against an in-form player.
At Biel Challenger, Switzerland ( indoor hard)
[R2] Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,192) d. Mats Moraing (GER,175) 62 63
Excellent serving day for him as he served 14 aces and only 2 double faults.
Next,
[QF] Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,192) vs. (5) Liam Broady (GBR,139)
RamK is 0-2 against Broady and lost against him just 2 weeks back at same stage of Cassis Challenger in France. But, just feel that on these fast indoor courts RamK will at least put up a much stiffer challenge.
