I agree. If it doesn't work out rather soon in singles (ie, get back near top-100 in a few months), he should focus on doubles. He can be a really good one in doubles. A great one, possibly. In fact, RK-Yuki could be as good as LP-MB, in my opinion. They can even look for a doubles medal at the next Olympics too.VReddy wrote: ↑Tue Jul 13, 2021 12:26 pmDoubles is not the same as it used to be. It has become a real power game now. If RamK turns to doubles now, he can turn himself into one of the top doubles players in the world and have a career like Aisam or Bops and have a Grand Slam title or two in mixed. If he switches to doubles after 3-4 years in his early 30s, that time is lost. He can expect to have a career where he makes few Grand Slam appearances but nothing substantial.

RamK and Qureshi lose 61 57 7-10. So, we wrapped up a trifecta of losses by our players.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Ramkumar is playing Christopher Eubanks in Q1 of the Citi Open in Washington, DC. RamK leads 64 36 21 currently.
I remember them meeting in R1 in Cincinnati in 2017, with RamK winning that encounter. RamK also beat Eubanks in Q1 (grass) at Newport earlier that year.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
At the Mallorca Challenger , Ram opens up against a Spanish WC,but the next rounds could be tough as they are against 5th seed Ofner and should he overcome, then the top seed awaits him, it is quite important for Ram to string up consistent wins and go deep for this and coming tournaments, as a win or 2 in each wont serve any purpose as now he too is in danger of dropping like Sumit/Prajnesh.
Couple of weeks ago thought he would be reasonably placed for end of year, based on his form and was hoping for 45 points from the USO which looked on the cards with a set and 42 up in the 2nd , however those 45 points have been taken over by his conqueror Donskoy who qualified for the MD and facing FAA in the opener.
For the Dbls Ram has paired up with Bala and they are the 3rd seeds.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Woaa.. in less than 24 hours the scenario has changed completely , with 357 points Ram was at 204 , his 357 points have remained unchanged , but apparently it seems the guys who were above him also had points falling this week , and now all of a sudden has jumped up 13 places to 191 in the live rankings.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Ram won today, good comeback win. I think he is the real India No 1 now. Hope his rankings catch up.
I don't know why he has this annoying habit of yammering away all the time. After the match he was talking to the ref about "did hand shake". Just play your match and go. He isn't a Top 10 player for all that to be tolerated. His extended grunting is also another thing.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
what is this new thing you are trying to create...what was so annoying .. he simply was clarifying with the umpire that " used to shaking hands" as he inadvertently shook hands with the umpire after the match as they still are not allowed too..Sanjay wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 1:18 pm

Finally someone wins something even though it is over a nobody (currently). I hope he wins one more round though.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
He had 0-40 3BP on Ofner at 5-5, and broke him at 30-40 with a superb passing shot to a charging Ofner. Ramk held serve with an ace at 40-15 set point... 7-5 0-0
