Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
As of now Ram is 6 out of the MD at NewPort.
By the time the tournament commences he should be able to make the MD
If that were to happen , it would be his first direct entry into an ATP which would be unaided by either a WC or playing qualies.

I think he will go far at Newport, SF or more -- perhaps even the title. Newport is a great place for Indian players, and it is a tournament where upsets are the norm. Just the place for Ramkumar!

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
NewPort is the most discussed tournament in this forum right from the initial days , Gurvinder or GPGH (something like that) coined a nice term as Indian National's. If one were to look at the stats carefully , apart from Vijay & LP singles exploits there was good performance's in the doubles and notable results achieved by Anand. Ramesh strangely and surprisingly never bothered to enter this tournament in his entire career.

Yes, Anand Amritraj beat John McEnroe the week after Johnnie Mac had made the SF at Wimbledon for the first time (1977).

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
And how could we forget Prakash's only ATP final in 2008 and during that time Rohan too was in good singles nick and lost to Prakash in the Qtrs.
2008 was the year we had Indian finalist both in the Singles(Prakash) and Doubles (Rohan) although both of them lost the respective Finals.

And the following year, NRI Rajeev Ram won the singles title -- which he was to win again in 2015. He and Aisam are the reigning doubles champions there. In 2009, Rajeev had won both the singles and doubles titles. Leander won the doubles there just once, Vijay twice (neither time with Anand), and Mahesh never won a title there.

Where is he these days? He was still in High School at that time! . I often think about him and Arun, and wonder where they are! Does anyone know?

There are more: Puneet, Kujo, amr090 (or something like that, it may be Arun, who got married), shaili, shibi, nkoth, chrisfootball, and several others that were regulars. Even gbelday is awol for a while. And, there was a Gautam too, IIRC.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
But the members list keeps on increasing with suspicious names who never seem to post .
The Members list would be cut by more than half if those dicey members were deleted.
In fact now a days there seem to be only roughly 15 to 20 members who seem to contribute .

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
I think it’s always been the case in this forum—only about 15-20 contribute at any given time. And that’s all you need.
There’s nothing wrong with growing readership. It’s not necessary that everyone contribute. As long as the silent ones don’t try to muck up the tranquility of this forum, I don’t see anything wrong in the increasing numbers of non-contributing members. Rajiv, perhaps you can elaborate why it bothers you?
Mods—please move these posts to an appropriate thread. Thanks.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Sometimes I wonder what them stop. Is it that they have stopped posting or is it that they stopped visiting the site?
It happens when their favourite player retires or maybe some change in their work life?
