Did he have any business losing this match, of course he didn’t. However I’m sure no one on this message board was shocked if they are being honest with themselves. The guy has been horrible this year and has zero confidence no matter whomever he’s playing. At this rate, RamK will need to enter Futures events if he wants to resurrect his flailing singles career as his ranking will be plummeting soon. Just stick to doubles at the ATP level.

This is a shameful loss. If he doesn’t sit down and introspect and find some answers, he should seriously consider giving up singles. There’s simply no excuse anymore.

Not only these losses are shambolic, but accompanying those losses are those string of ignonimous records he has created on the way like the longest losing R1 streak in a decade, record failed attempts at GS's,losing to unknown WC's.
And again today the same WC ghost, this 800 ranked WC has played only 2 futures tournaments in this year , compared to non stop play by Ram since Jan 1st, but still couldn't beat him.

Guys have been saying dbls for him,  but I am guarded on this and going to wait and watch as  if you take out  those 500 Boppanna propelled points , nothing to indicate that he has set the dbls on fire and the results have been  on par like the our other dbls bandits.
So once those Boppana points drop off then will the real test come in competing with Yuki,Saki ,Balaji, Jeevan etc for the dbls.

I think RamK needs to take some time off and introspect on his goals for 2022 and 2023. He needs an outside coach who can give some impartial advice on his physical game, strengths and weaknesses, his mental game - is he going in as a problem solver with strong self- belief or not. Does he have a girlfriend who can provide a strong support backbone? I don’t even know the guy - I’m asking the questions one would ask any player who is heading downwards.

Our guys used to win Newport in a bygone era.
Now we are "doubles kings". :damn:

I think the problem with our guys is the experience of senior players is not transferred to younger players. So everyone starts from scratch and spends a lifetime learning.

[QF] Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND) / John Patrick Smith (AUS) 6-1 6-4 Radu Albot (MDA) / Treat Huey (PHI)

Ramkumar moves up to a career high ranking of #64 with this win. Tough SF awaits against either Max Purcell (Wimby Men's doubles champ)/ Tim Van Rijthoven (beat Medvedev at Hertogenbosch to win the title as a WC entrant) or the 4th seeds Will Blumberg/Steve Johnson.

In fact he was playing well for 2 sets , a set up and going with serve for the entire second set untill when at 4-5 , serving to make it 5 all got crucially broken to lose the set 4-6 and once he lost the crucial set , the Japanese changed form to dominate him in the decider.
Was going big on serves with 15 aces but at the same time the 12 DF's proved crucial in the loss.

Now this loss puts his USO qualies chances in a big jeopardy , as he is now 226 in the live rankings and next Monday in the live rankings when his 48 Cary points drop will further slide to 268 or even lower if the other guys do well and this 260 range will remain until 1st Aug when the USO list comes out as next week he has only entered Atlanta primarily to play dbls , as for singles he is 17 away in the Quali Alt list.

Ramkumar snatched a last-minute spot to play singles at the Atlanta ATP250 in the qualifying draw. He was slated to play in the doubles main draw with Chilian Julio Peralta but the EL shows the pair withdrew, so he should get a chance to find another partner now. Yuki and Saketh are still 5 spots out of the main draw.

Atlanta Open ATP 250:

QR1 (ALT) Ramkumar Ramanathan (196) vs [7] Stefan Kozlov (USA,103) H2H 2-1
