Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread

Post by jayakris »

I think some of the old timers do read but dont post because they are not as clued in on all the day-to-day happenings and details like they used to be, and like many of us active posters are. Life makes some folks busy sometimes, and they can fall way behind even after a few weeks.. Then they find it hard to keep up with the diehards here and feel shy/reluctant to post :)

This is a a tough match against former WR #51 Daniel Brands ... Daniel is in a comeback trail after long injury break and having some good wins in last few weeks ... In the last week, he had a win against WR #15 Jack Sock on the grass.

At $50K+H Recanati Challenger 2018, Italy

[R1] (1) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,124) vs (PR) Daniel Brands (GER,316)

That’s a very tough R1 against Brands, who took the first set off (and led 3-0 in the second set TB against) Nadal at the 2013 French Open and beat Federer on clay (Gstaad 2013). He also made R4 at Wimbledon in 2010, so he’s an all-court player. In the current comeback, he won a Futures in Tunisia, then qualified into and made the QF at the Glasgow and Loughborough Challengers, qualified into and made the last-16 at Surbiton and beat Sock in qualifying at Eastbourne. He is basically in terrific form.

Google helps :)

Ramkumar is playing doubles with Moriya. Their R1 match is at 4:30pm. No singles for RamK today.

Incredibly close match. Ramkumar had a DF at 7-7 in the second set tiebreak, Brands then lost the next point on his serve, but then won the next two.

At the Winnetka Challenger Ram faces the Russian Evgeny Karlovskiy in the opening round .
Ram was the Finalist last year, so he has to defend a lot of points.
Good Luck Ram..

Tough Challenger, as all US ones are. Ramkumar shouldn't put too much pressure on himself here; he has a lot of points to defend at this Challenger, but not much in too many others this month. Possible R2 opponent is Escobedo (who beat Yuki in Q3 of the 2017 AO, but hasn't really been able to advance his career much since).

I'm also looking forward to RamK at Newport next week (ie, the week after the Wimbledon final).

Daniel Brands won the Recanati Challenger last week without dropping a set. The closest match he played was the first round match against top-seeded Ramkumar (who he beat in two tight tiebreaks).

For the 2nd week in a row, Ram's conqueror has gone on to win the tournament, as Karlovsky takes home the Winnetka title.
