Tara played a few matches in the fall of 2008. She retired from a match in January and since then has played only one match in May 2009.

Here is a link to Duke's season statistics:

In one of the photos in this photo gallery, you can see Tara with a brace on her right knee.

2009-2010 US college tennis is getting underway. Here are the preseason rankings.

#9 -- Sanam Singh, Junior, U.Va
#10 -- Saketh Myneni, Senior, U.Alabama
#32 -- Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, Junior, U.Washington

Sanam and Houston Barrick (UVa) are ranked 4th in doubles. Indian-American Vijay Paul and Bryant Salcedo (Vanderbilt U) are ranked #50. A bit surprised that Saketh and Jeevan are not part of any ranked doubles teams.

On the girls's side, Gayatri Krishnan (#123, junior, Stonybrooke U.) is the only ranked Indian player. Good to see Ramesh's daughter squeezing into the top-125 rank list. Indian-American Ragini Acharya (College of Willaim and Mary) is #107.

Interesting that Ramesh's daughter has chosen a reasonably good (academic) state university. It was too much to expect a fourth-generation tennis player (and Ramesh has only one daughter, I believe), so Gayathri seems to be diversifying out of the family profession (without completely giving it up).

Another Indian player, Prajneesh Gunneswaran has joined US college circuit by signing up for University of Tennessee. He received wild card this week for Knoxville challanger , which may be played at Univesity of Tennesse courts.
Prajneesh lost 67(5) 26 to 4th seed Michael Maclune of USA

This is news on Prajneesh's recruitment alongwith others -

Prajneesh had a shown alot of promise a year back & had then disappeared. Hopefully, he will gain a lot from college tennis experiance.

The new college rankings came out yesterday.

#6 Sanam Singh (U.Virginia)
#51 Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan (U.Washington)
#61 Saketh Myneni (U.Alabama)
#112 Tejesvi (Rao) Veerapalli (Fresno State U.)

U.Virginia is now the #1 ranked men's team. They have Michael Shabaz at #5, Drew Courtney at #15, Jarmere Jenkins at #19 and two more guys in the top-75. Amazing. Tough thing for Sanam to be #2 in a team, while ranked #6 in the country! ..

I am a little disappointed that Jeevan has not moved up much higher by now. Tejesvi is a senior now; and he finally makes it into the rankings. By the way, Siddharth Alapati is now a sophomore at Fresno State, which has a coach with Indian connection (Jay Udwadia) .. An Indian-American, Akash Muppidi (from Connecticut), freshman at Boston College comes into the rankings at #76

On the women's side, we have #107 Sandhya Nagaraj (N.Carolina St. U.) .. Sandhya was ranked at #45 but has fallen to #107. Madura Ranganathan (U.NorthTexas) appears in the doubles team ranks at #38.

Nice to see Sandhya move up all the way from 100+ back to 51 now. I saw her picture at the NC State site, and she seems to have definitely improved her physique after a year there. Go Sandhya ..

Congrats, Sanam, for the #1 rank ..

Congratulations to Sanam Singh for attaining the #1 ranking in college tennis. The third Indian to achieve that ranking in the past decade...

Virginia clearly have a spectacular tennis program. Shabazz (their #1 player) is ranked #2 and Sanam (UVa's #2 player!!) is ranked #1, no doubt deservingly after winning the ITA (indoor?) singles title.

Congrats Sanam for the no.1 rank.

But, I simply do noit understand how these college rankings work. Sanam played no.2 for UVA while Shabazz played no.1 . I think Shabazz played & won against higher ranked players because he played at no.1 but is still ranked lower then Sanam now. :-~

Yes, college rankings are quite a mystery. I recall looking into it a couple of years ago and it depends most significantly on your top X wins (say X is 6 at this point). So while it is likely that VA #1 Shabazz played higher ranked players than VA #2 Sanam in the past (i.e., when they played them), the current rankings depend on the current quality of those wins. Therefore, if those then lower ranked players whom Sanam beat have improved their rankings to be currently better than the then higher ranked players Shabazz beat, then Sanam would currently be ranked higher than Shabazz. :D

One other thing that puzzles me in College Tennis is the amount of "DNF" matches. Why do they do that and how are these accounted for while calculating points for that particular match?

Jay/Jaydeep, can you enlighten us please? :)
