Thanks, Jaydeep! We are the land of doubles specialists
I know Raveena is not Indian but she's been discussed here because of her "Indian" heritage. I just noticed this interview on the tennis recruiting site.

Couple of youngsters of Indian origin...
Nishesh Basavareddy
Nishanth Basavareddy
They used to live in Irvine, but moved to Indiana couple of years back. Very talented brothers with dedicated parents!

Yes, Nishesh is a pretty good player from what I've read about him. I think he trains at the same club in Indiana that Rajeev Ram trained as a junior (and later Sameer Kumar). Nishesh won the little mo internationals a few years ago (the same tournament that Roddick, Agassi, Sampras won when they were young). So that's a pretty good indicator of his talent.

OSU Duo Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe Win Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship
“We like to keep the pressure on, so we’re always aggressive,” said Kadhe, “especially with our volleys and overheads. We like to put away every shot we can get to.”
“We knew the great history of this event coming in,” said Cash, “and we wanted to put our names up there with past champions like (John) McEnroe. When you play at this level, you know about the Pacific Coast and we knew we wanted to win it.”

Re: Indians in US College Tennis
Rishab is doing fairly Ok. He is now ranked #74 nationally and has won quite a few matches for Mississippi State university but has also lost a few. Hope he gets inside top 30 in the rankings which will be a fair indication that he has chance of pro success. That is where some of our players who have done well in pros later have gone- Somdev, Saketh, Sanam, KU Singh ( Of course Somdev is an absolute legend as far as college tennis goes.)

Re: Indians in US College Tennis
So, as we approach the end of 2015-16 season and towards NCAA championships , these are the ITA rankings of Indian players as on 19th April-
Men-
Singles
Rishab Agarwal 60
Arjun Kadhe 115
Doubles
Arjun Kadhe (with Julien Cash) 6
Vaidik Munshaw (with Lucas Hejhal) 89
Women-
Singles
Kanika Vaidya 45
Rutuja Bhosale 74
Doubles
Shweta Sangwan (With Kennan Johnson) 39
Rutuja Bhosale (With Anna Mamalat) 72
Kanika is in her final year and should get to play the NCAA individual tournament. Arjun should certainly get to play doubles there and hopefully Rishab and Rutuja will also get to play singles.

Ronit Singh Bisht is joining Texas Tech!
In other news, Richie Agarwal led his team, Jackson State University, to the SWAC title. This has enabled them to qualify for the regionals.

Re: Indians in US College Tennis
This is the detailed news about Ronit Bisht joining texas tech-
Men's Tennis Inks Ronit Bisht
Texas tech is a good team ranked in top 10 in rankings and their current top 2 players are going out. So, Ronit should be able to move up the ranks in their team quickly and get some quality matches. He is talented and 2-3 years of college tennis should prepare him better for pros.

Re: Indians in US College Tennis
That's good news. Most of our players stagnate when they grind it out on men's tour without proper guidance. College Tennis is the best bet for most of our guys, unless one is as talented as Yuki or as resourceful as RamK.
BTW, who among the Bisht brothers is older? Ronit or Rohit? How is Rohit doing these days?

Re: Indians in US College Tennis
Rohit is the elder one. But, it does not seem like he is persuing tennis now. Ronit was always the more talented one and it seems family might have decided to spend resources on him.

Re: Indians in US College Tennis
At NCAA individual championships, Kanika will play womens singles, Rishab Agarwal will play mens singles and Arjun Kadhe will play mens doubles. It seems Rutuja just missed out in both singles and doubles. All their teams will of course get to play in team champinships.sameerph wrote: Kanika is in her final year and should get to play the NCAA individual tournament. Re: Indians in US College Tennis
Rishab Agarwal's MSU is through to the Round of 16 in NCAA Team Championships. They blanked Illinois 4-0 today. Rishab's singles match was unfinished against #16 Jared Hiltzik (ATP- 612) with both the players trading a set. Rishabh has already defeated Jared in an ITF tournament last November.
MSU will take on North Carolina in the Round of 16 next weekend.
