Re: Vishnu Vardhan thread...
That is good news indeed. He needs to play more (and preferably at the Challenger level), and regain his form from a year ago.

Re: Vishnu Vardhan thread...
This looks to be a virtual Asian-Oceanian challenger. 17 out of 22 direct acceptances are Asians , 2 from New Zeland & 1 from Australia. There are only 2 acceptances from Europe & none from Americas ( North & South). I have never seen such sort of field dominated by 1 continent at challenger level. This one off week coming in the middle of US hard court & ongoing Euoropean clay season seems to have precluded those from US & South America in making the trip.
With such a week field , few more Indians could have made the main draw here. Unfortunately, at that point of time many Indian players would be either in US ( Somdev,Saketh, Prakash,Sanam, probably Yuki) or Europe ( Jeevan, Balaji ) . So, difficult to make such a long trip just for 1 week.

Re: Vishnu Vardhan thread...
Vishnu got engaged to women tennis player Sonia Dayal from Mumbai this week. He posted photos on his facebook page. Sonia was ranked top 200 in juniors & was also ranked in WTA. But, seems to have given up playing now.
Hope this brings bak luck for Vishnu in his tennis career.

Re: Vishnu Vardhan thread...
Vishnu has started a tennis business on the side, and the marriage to a fellow-tennis player should help with that. The lull in his quality of play this year is also perhaps explained by the distractions from his personal life flowering. But I hope he doesn't abandon his pro career just yet -- and instead uses this opportunity to recharge and come back stronger.

I agree with PKB. He will be 26 a few weeks later and I think he should take this as an opportunity to recharge because he still can play a lot. He should solve his fitness issues. This is a nice article on atpworldtour site about Vishnu. I still feel he should take cue and be motivated for Rio and try to make it there again.

Re: Vishnu Vardhan thread...
I do not have that much respect for those who are just happy to play in the Olympics. Tennis players worth their salt don't play for the Olympics. I do not think he will make it to the next Olympics anyway. He should work hard and get his ranking up. He is going nowhere.RohitG wrote:I agree with PKB. Re: Vishnu Vardhan thread...
Rain has badly affected the Beijing challenger. Many of the first round singles matches are completed including Vishnu's match. So, it looks most of the players will have to play 2 matches tomorrow.
They got done doubles first round matches indoors today & Vishnu won his match alongwith his partner.
At $75K Beijing Challenger, China
[R1] (4) Vishnu Vardhan (IND) / Hiroki Kondo (JPN) d. Kaden Hensel (AUS) / Luke Saville (AUS) 64 36 10-2
Next,
[QF] (4) Vishnu Vardhan (IND) / Hiroki Kondo (JPN) vs. Yu Chang (CHN) / Ze Li (CHN)
