Vishnu won the fist set against Sitak 63. Just 1 break of serve for Vishnu. He did not face any breakpoints. Hope he keeps the momentum.

At $75K Beijing Challenger, China

[R1] Vishnu Vardhan (IND,563) vs. Artem Sitak (NZL, 436) 63

Vishnu won the second set with a double break of serve to win the match.

At $75K Beijing Challenger, China

[R1] Vishnu Vardhan (IND,563) d. Artem Sitak (NZL, 436) 63 62

A decent win at challenger level for Vishnu after a long time & first one this year.

He has to play his second round match today itself.

[R2] Vishnu Vardhan (IND,563) vs. Wu Di (CHN,197)

Wu Di beat easily won his match 62 61 eariler in the day. So, he will clearly be the favourite for this match. But, Vishnu can go all out with nothing to lose.

Down a set and a break already in the second, drops his server again to go down double break. Phew last 4 games were over in a flash...

[R2] Vishnu Vardhan (IND,563) l Wu Di (CHN,197) 36 26

Terrible scheduling, to have to play two full singles matches on the same day -- but it was unavoidable with R1 being played on a Thursday. Good that Vishnu won one round, but disappointing that he lost so badly to the local boy ranked in the top-200.

Expected Vishnu's loss against Chinese top player playing his second match. But, at least he had a win at challenger level while he was losing to all & sundry even at futures level of late.

Doubles

[SF] (4) Vishnu Vardhan (IND) / Hiroki Kondo (JPN) vs. Mao Xin Gong (CHN) / Ze Zhang (CHN) 63 26 11-13

Close loss for Vishnu. But, with this SF appearance his doubles ranking will move up close to 250.

He does not seem to be listed in any of the futures for next 2-3 weeks. He is in alternates for the Astana challenger a week after. Mostly, he will play singles qualies there alongwith doubles main draw.

He will be in a bit of fix now as regards his schedule as his doubles ranking is good enough to get into main draws of challengers ( & he also has a host of points to defend that ranking) while his singles ranking is not good enough for challenger main draws except the weekest ones like this week. If he concentrates on futures, his doubles ranking will fall while if he plays challengers, he will have go thru qualies in singles every time.

He has to play challenger qualies and doubles. But, this guy does not really seem to want to make it. He did not use his ranking to play consistently in the last year. Maybe he did not have the money but I think the Olympics guys got a whole lot of support. So, my response is "whatever". If he does not care and give his best, it's best we don't follow him with that much passion either.

Vishnu played 21 tournaments last year & had he not missed a couple of months due to being at the Olympics & being injured, they could have been more. What makes you think that he does not care & does not want to make it. Just because the guy got engaged. :D

There have been some other Indian players whom you can think of having patchy schedules & not really playing enough using their rankings ( such as Sanam & Balaji) but same cannot be said of Vishnu. Last year he travelled to Australia, Japan,China, Uzbekistan , Korea, Thailand & Turkey. What more do you want ?

You can perhaps say he is not good enough but no evidence to say that he does not care or is not trying.

Ok. Then, I got mixed up. Thanks for setting this straight, Sameer. I think Sanam was injured. I possibly mixed up Balaji with Vishnu. Do you think one should be really blamed for mixing up Balaji and Vishnu? :p

Balaji is a candidate for your two-God theory Prasen. You should probably add more rules or modify the theory like how they did with the periodic table.
