Re: Tara Iyer thread
Excellent start for Tara in Australia! She should concentrate on playing in similar tournaments (against players with similar to slightly higher rankings) and aim to gradually dominate these, before moving to the next level. That she is able to win comfortably overseas against a player with basically the same ranking is a very positive sign.

Re: Tara Iyer thread
Hmmm ... The top-250 wins are still tough for Tara to pull off. Playing some good sets here and there, but not a full match against those players. Need to take that next step one of these days to play a full match and get the challenger wins going.

Re: Tara Iyer thread
I noticed that Tara is coached by her dad. I just had a question on what Mr. Iyer's qualifications are? He obvioulsy has done a great job so far but it may be time for her to get a professional coach and step it up. Since they are based in the US, I am not sure if money is that big of an issue as it is with some of our other players. I don't have any knowledge on their plans but if someone does, it would be helpful to know.

Re: Tara Iyer thread
They are not based in the US, actually. Her dad had an assignment in NY with the world bank or something for a few years, that is all. I don't think they are stinkig rich or anything. I could imagine that getting a bigtime coach would not be easy. I think some big sponsorship needs to come from somewhere ...

Re: Tara Iyer thread
I think they are based in Delhi & she trains under coach Aditya Sachdeva there. Aditya seems to be quite good modern coach base on some of the articles which appeared in newspapers & has quite a few promising Delhi players training under him ( including all Bhambris).
Perhaps Tara will try & make it top 250-200 with present set up & then she can hope for some big sponsership & topnotch coach.

Re: Tara Iyer thread
At $ 25k Traralgon challanger , Australia
[R1] IYER, Tara (IND,358) v. (7) LUANGNAM, Nudnida (THA,323)
I had seen Nudnida play a couple of years back in Mumbai . She seemed more like retriever type of player then but must have improved a lot since then the way she has gone up the rankings.
Lets see how Tara matches up with her.
