Divij and his partner lost a close semi-final at Marrakech yesterday
At €501K Grand Prix Hassan II 2018, Marrakech, Morocco
[SF] Divij Sharan (IND)/ Jan-Lennard Struff (GER) l. (1) Nikola Mectic (CRO)/ Alexander Peya (AUT) 3-6, 6-3, 11-9.
That's still a good week for Divij who is growing from strength to strength.

Congrats to Divij who is at a career high of #41 this week! Unfortunately, it does not look like he could enter the Monte Carlo masters event, so no opportunity to move up this week.

Divij/Matkowski is seeded 2nd at the Istanbul ATP and plays Albot/Basilashvili in R1. Easy match to start with but whatever happened to the guy Scott Lipsky???
Wonder whom Divij will find for RG.

Lipsky is playing Estoril open this week with Elrich. Lipsky is ranked only 78 in doubles now. So, not an ideal partner for Divij ( who is ranked 43) if he wants to play higher level tournaments. Matkowski is quite good but let us see if Divijs partnership with him is only for this week or long term.

TOPS: Divij in, Bhambri out
Yuki Bhambri’s decision not to participate in the Asian Games and instead concentrate on his professional career has resulted in the Sports Ministry dropping him from the list of athletes funded and supported under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS).
Instead the Mission Olympic Cell (MOC), responsible for periodic review of performances and training, competition and equipment needs, has included 32-year-old doubles specialist Divij Sharan till the Asian Games. Divij is currently ranked 43 on the ATP doubles tour.
The committee also sanctioned ₹26.03 lakh as coach and physio expenses for Rohan Bopanna for 12 weeks. Weightlifter Sanjita Chanu, under suspension for a doping violation, has also been dropped from TOPS.

Unfortunate for Yuki. It seems to be a pretty tidy sum of funding he's having to sacrifice for choosing USO over Asian Games. Ideally a talented athlete should not be made to go through such circumstances.

Divij Sharan happy with his progress
Divij hopes to play the Rogers Cup ATP 1000 event in Toronto, Canada, next week, but is not quite sure whether he would make the cut.
“I will try to play the ATP 1000 in Toronto next week, but the cut is looking tough. We will see if I make the draw there.
“I plan to come home to Delhi before going for the Asian Games’’, said Divij.
It would be a sensible thing to do, as apart from the collection of the accreditation card which serves as a visa, a lot of other formalities need to be completed by the Indian athletes for the Asian Games to be held in Jakarta and Palembang from August 18 to September 2.

I just talked to Divij after he lost his game earlier today in Washington. He is currently, not going to play anywhere it seems. He told me that he is going back home for at least 10-13 days. He told me he will be back in U.S during US Open, i guess after he is done with Asian Games.
All the best to him, he is a fine person and has a great coach in Abhijit with him who himself is quiet young and just wants to see his player do well. I think Abhijeet/Divij combo is great because both are of similar attitude. This pair will win a grandslam for sure. I don't know who will be Divij's partner when he wins it but Divij, the calm head, surely needs someone of that sort to coach him and Abhijeet seems to have that quality.

As per this article, Artem Sitak will partner with Austin Krajicek in 2019-
Kiwi doubles player Artem Sitak will have his third partner in a year for the start of next season
So, looks like both Divij and Jeevan will have to find new partners now.

As per latest ranking, Divij is back to be India #1 ranked at #41 just ahead of Rohan who is at #42. Last time it lasted only for a week but this time it will be at least 2 weeks as Rohan lost in first round at Madrid while Divij seems to be resting this week.
I would rather have Divij get the # 1 spot by storming into top 25 or something rather than due to Rohan's ranking falling. Divij broke into top 50 in November 2017 and since than has been hovering around the rankings between 36 and 45. Needs some big tournament wins to move ahead.

Post French Open Divij and other Indian players should just go for kitchen sink approach and try and get every point possible to get on that plane to Tokyo. Of course doubles players will have it easy but a higher rank will not kill you. Divij should aim for top-10 so that he gets first choice. It would be good if Divij, Jeevan, Balaji can make the cut so that there'ts no soap opera before the tournament. In singles, our guys will need a top-60 rank before the deadline so it's difficult. A good show at Wimbledon and US Open can make it easier though

Divij doesn't have a regular partner and that is a real issue.
