Re: Divij Sharan thread
But for a moment lets imagine husband wife arguing over kids future. What argument will Divij have for the kid to play for India? Except for emotional reasons I doubt he will have any. Nothing changed in India during the last 15 years. To hope for the future... Nah won't think on those lines.

Re: Divij Sharan thread
Biggest reason to play for India is that someone who never breaks into the top 100 and has had success only in doubles will still have dedicated fans like us tracking their careers and giving them the praise and accolades they deserve. Someone with such a career would be a nobody in British sport.

Re: Divij Sharan thread
Depends on citizenship right? unless India allows PIOs or children of Indian parents to represent the country just like how many countries do for their football teams. We now have Stephen and Alison, Divij and Samantha and not to forget Sania and Shoaib!

Re: Divij Sharan thread
Congratulations to Divij. What a complete surprise!!
Samantha has a career high singles ranking of 165 (FAR higher than Divij's 438), but a career-high in doubles of only 148 -- whereas Divij has a career high of 36 in men's doubles, a gold medal in the Asian Games and FOUR ATP tour doubles titles.
I disagree that a Brit like Divij would have got no attention in the UK. A top-50 doubles player (and especially one with very good grass skills) would probably have received a lot of grass wildcards that would have propelled him to a much higher singles ranking too (and perhaps several main draw singles appearances at Wimbledon).
Among other things, Divij-Purav beat the current world #1 doubles pair -- Cabal/Farah -- in the SF (62 63) on the way to their first ATP tour doubles title. Divij has made the last-16 stage of all the four Slams (including this year at Wimbledon), and made the QF at Wimbledon last year, so he already has a pretty impressive pro doubles career. Perhaps a Mixed Doubles wildcard next year could do something special for our new couple, but for that Samantha will need to restart her tennis career. If she chooses to represent India now (via marriage to an Indian citizen), she could boost our Fed Cup team!

Re: Divij Sharan thread
Samantha beat Shuai Peng in Q1 at Wimbledon this year and reached Q3. At least on grass, she remains a very good singles player, even at age 31.
Re: Divij Sharan thread
Samantha and Alison can train together under Stephen and Anand - now that will be quite a benefit for both ladies players. Along the way Anand can take a hard look at divij serve.
