14 year old Mahek Jain is someone to watch out for. This is her first ITF juniors title and with that she will move close 330 in the rankings and she is one of the top 8-10, 2001 born players in the world.

On the boys side, none is clearly emerging as a prospect post Sumit Nagal. Lot of players are beating each other up. I had expected Vasishta Cheruku to break out by now but he lost early in these 2 weeks.

Like last year, this year a tournament among our best 18 year olds is being held in DLTA on newly laid clay courts there named Rendezvous Roland Garros. The boys and girls winners at this event, will compete at Roland Garros with similar winners from China, Brazil, Korea and Japan and the ultimate winners of that event will get a wild card to the 2016 junior French open juniors tournament.

Among girls, our top 4 girls - Paranjala, Karman, Zeel Desai and Mihika Yadav are not competing. They would be keen to make it French open main draw based on their ranking. Our boys no. 1, Vasishta Cheruku is also not playing, not sure why.

These are the results of Quarter finals and semi finals -

QF

Boys: Adil Kalyanpur bt Paramveer Singh Bajwa 0-6, 6-4, 7-5; Abhimanyu Vannam Reddy bt Dhruv Sunish 6-3, 3-6, 6-3; Manish Sureshkumar bt Sanil Jagtiani 6-3, 6-2.

Girls: Humera Shaik bt Sathwika Sama 6-4, 1-6, 7-5; Rishika Ravindran bt Lalita Devarakonda 6-3, 6-4; Akanksha Bhan bt Sabhyata Nihalani 6-1, 6-4; Mahak Jain bt Abinikka Renganathan 6-2, 6-4.

SF

Boys: Adil Kalyanpur bt Abhimanyu Vannem Reddy 6-1, 6-3; Manish Sureshkumar bt Alex Solanki 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Girls: Humera Shaik bt Rishika Ravindran 2-6, 6-2, 6-3; Mahak Jain bt Akanksha Bhan 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.

Incidentally, AITA has also announced that the winner of this event will get a main draw wild card for Delhi open next week. So, great chance for winners here to play a big challenger level event apart from chance to compete at Roland Garros.

It's Manish Sureshkumar vs Nitin Kumar Sinha in the final of the Adidas MCC Junior Nationals, Chennai. Manish beat Adil Kalyanpur in the quarters, while Nitin took out BR Nikshep in the semis. Hoping that Nitin pulls through in the final! :D

Good to see Nitin Kumar Sinha win, perhaps the first talent to emerge from Calcutta in about 15 years. Like in much else, Calcutta's tennis tradition too has faded in the past couple of decades. Reflecting this, Nitin's top junior ranking is in the 300s and his current one in the 700s. At 17, it is time for him to play more internationally.

Yes, that is because he has played only 2 ITF junior tournaments the whole year, 2 in India early this year. Needs to play more to take his ranking to a certain level which will allow him to play at least higher level junior tournaments.

He was out for a few months due to a groin injury. This is his first tournament after the injury. So a big effort to win the whole thing in a pretty tough field, where the likes of Adil Kalyanpur(training at Rafa Nadal Academy), Siddhant Banthia(just came back from a training stint in Canada), BR Nikshep(India No.2), etc were playing.
