My guess is that he will only play Geneva if he has short stints in the KR challengers. Otherwise, he will likely go straight to Paris....

Yuki has not even entered the Geneva ATP qualies draw. So, he cannot play Geneva ATP unless he is offered a main draw wild card.

That at least makes a bit of sense, suggesting that he will be playing the Busan Challenger the previous week (and hence cannot play the Geneva qualifiers). There is a good chance that he will make the main draw at Geneva (the last acceptance is ranked 65, so the chance of it falling to his level isn't that remote).

Of course, if he doesn't make the main draw in Geneva, he will go into the French Open without a single match on clay -- quite ludicrous.

Yuki has withdrawn from Gimcheon. Looks like his next tournament will be FO unless he somehow gets into Geneva.

Bit of a waste of some easy point winning opportunities.

Damn, Yuki's scheduling continues to be a mystery. If he did not want to play Korea challengers, why skip the masters qualies ? He would have got a decent amount for just turning up and at least some match practice on clay before French open. Now it is neither here nor there.

Hope he at least plays bigger Busan Challenger the week after.

He had some injury. He played the week after Davis cup just to qualify in the md of fo and Wimbledon. Looks like he has decided to recover fully and then play.

Yes, recovery and willingness to skip the dirt seem to be driving his schedule. Hopefully, he will be fit for the hard Court season...

Yuki's Instagram stories showed him training with Vijayant Malik in RK Khanna Stadium (Harc courts). Are there no clay courts in Delhi to prepare for the French Open? :-~

Yuki on French clay - i don't see him change his game much - if anything he will have to find ways to shorten the points anyway since getting into 30-shot rallies on every rally is not his forte. Yes Delhi has clay courts but not French clay which is totally different anyway. So what he really needs right now is rest and recovery from his injury and practice sessions - any court surface will do. Not the most optimal thing but we have his injury recovery to consider which is critically important for the grass and hard court sessions following clay.

Maybe he got advice that playing on clay court will worsen his tendinitis. When you have RSI, you have to be smart and manage the wear and tear. Perhaps he finally got some analyst to look at things and found out that the best bet to maximize points over the year, is to take rest in between. And that is the clay season. He has basically written it off. He is going to the French because it is a GS and it pays a lot of money but does not want the grueling preparation it requires to do well because he thinks his body cannot take it.

Nishioka is a really tough draw.

With Yuki coming back from a break, I would put the Japanese as a slight favourite.

Yes, Nishioka is back in form making the Gimcheon challenger final including a win over Jordan Thompson. Will be a good test for Yuki...
